Hi my name is scotty I am from springfield illinois and i am new to the board. I have six leucs 3.3.0, four azureus 2.2.0, four green and black panamanian 0.0.4 and four newly arrived almirante pumilio 2.2.0. Well my question is has anyone else noticed how right before the new larvae hatch in the culture that the original flies used to start the cultures get pretty good at flying? Am I doing something wrong? I am scared to start new cultures with the hatchlings. I bought them from a popular dart site that sells excellent frogs. I am not going to mention there name because I don't know why this is happening. They are fresh bought cultures that haven't been used yet maybe the flies get that way before they die off? They are melo flightless. One of the cultures has small flightless but the older bigger ones have wings and can fly. I need some help. Should I start new cultures and risk contamination to my cultures ?

Hi cindy I guess a have to draw a picture for you since my grammar is to complicated. The six fruit fly cultures i just received still have the packing tape holding the lid on. I have not opened them. Half of the cultures have flies that can fly. It was a simple question in the newbie section and you have to be rude right off the bat. If newbies aren't welcome here i will go somewhere else for help. I thought this site was for new people but since you are a long time member i guess that makes you qualified to be rude?...........scotty

I don't think that was deliberate rudeness......poking a little fun.
Your cultures should not contain any fliers......they should all be very much flightless.
Where did you get them?

Just keep the smaller flightless flies and toss the fliers outside or elsewhere.....
Do not mix flies or allow the lids to be off for any length of time.

Scott,
I have known Cindy for a long time and unlike myself she very rarely has any intentions of being rude. I notice you were very quick to come back with a rude reply yourself...
Anyway, you do have some good questions. Once you have fliers in there they are there to stay, so I would contact Sean and explain you got a bunch of fliers and he should replace the cultures.
A little fun to and fro is nothing bad. Kind of breaks the monotony of "congrats", "nice pic", and "sorry to hear of your losses".
Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.
If tone is more important to you than content, you are at the wrong place.

Sorry if i jumped to conclusions i have never talked to her so i really dont know her. It just seems like some of these sites have people that dont care for new people in the hobby. The way i see it is how are you suppose to learn without asking questions and reading? I am not a rude person i dont call people names or anything it just rubbed me the wrong way. No introduction or anything just a weird way to start a conversation with someone you do not know...........sorry ..........scotty
