2.) What kind of poison dart frog would be recomended for a begginner?

3.) Would a 10 gallon tank be big enough?

4.) what should i know about setting up a tank for a poison dart frog?

5.) Any websites for begginners?

Thanks for your help....

Hi Briko,

1- almost none. But they do.
2- Green and Black auratus
3- Yes but I would go 20 gallon
4- Ok first thing is to have a false bottom in your vivarium; where water can drain from the soil. If you have water and soil together for a period of time, the soil will start to smell and anaerobic bacteria will form. When the tank smells like sulfur that is when you got something wrong happening in your tank. You can ask around about false bottom. Lot of people here will help you. You will also need plants, heater, water feature (either waterfall or just a mini lake)
5- I don't think there is any but you will catch up with it. it is not that hard. just keep the aquarium at a temp of 23 - 26 degrees celsius 80 % humidity and super clean. That would be a good start.

I always find this website very cool. It might help you a bit.

Good luck and have fun

I would recommend Leucs over auratus. Bolder, use higher portions of tank, louder, cooler call.

I could not find what you were talking about a false vivarium....

Can people recommend what supplies i will need to get started?

I currently have...
10gallon glass tank
light (was used in fish tank, change bulb perhaps?)

What else would I need to get started???

Thanks

hi there,

i would HIGHLY suggest ordering a few good books on dart frogs and reading them before getting started (you will need them for reference anyhow). The Professional Breeders Series book would be ideal.
It is a much less expensive investment than messing up when beggining with dart frogs.
also, there is a ton of information on the internet too. you just have to look for it. this very forum is a gold mine if you look at old threads.
good luck , ~Lauren
1.1.1 Hawaiian Auratus (reticulated), 1.2.2 Leucomelas, 3.2.1 Cobalt Tincs, 1.0.0 Kauluha & Creme / Camo Auratus, 2.0.1 Yelloback Tincs, 0.0.4 Azureus, 1.1.0 Spotted Auratus
