Isopods from outside ?
#1
Hello to you all Smile

Can I collect isopods from my backyard and clean them up with water and then put them in the viv?

Best regards Smile

If I lived somewhere remote, where it was hard or impossible to get them from another hobbyist or in the post / mail ,then MAYBE I would try this.

But most of us in the U.S hobby are afraid of introducing other pests, possible soil contamination, disease - Chytrid ect. FAR too risky when we can easily obtain many different species that are constantly maintained in master cultures from other hobbyists. Most of the hobby produced isopods are well acclimated to our hobby - meaning then reproduce pretty quickly. A lot of the native (wild) isopods take too long to acclimate and don't reproduce well or fast enough.

I would advise you to try to obtain 'hobby raised' Isopods and not to collect them. Far easier and less risky this way and doesn't cost much either.
