Lesser Waxmoth larvae - Who is using ?
#1
Anyone culturing these for Dart Frogs ?

I remember seeing about 50 cultures at Marcus Breece's warehouse and him telling me "I could never be able to keep all these Tincs, ect without all the waxworms" .

Interesting.

I tried a few cultures when I was breeding leopard geckos but the yields did not justify the effort involved.

when properly set up...the culturing is supposed to be easy and the yields, fairly big, I'm told.

I must have been doing something wrong, it took four months to get less than 20 little worms and digging through the medium to find them was a pain in the ass.

Yeah...I didn't bother to pump Marcus for all the "how to's" of his culturing system, but seeing as how he usually has 200-300 Tincs and Tinc sized frogs and that he "swears by using them"......I gotta think there's something there. Then there's the nutritional component - different and varied from FF. ect.

I really don't like them though.

When I was culturing them, I had great yields. They are easy to set up, but they do need
to be maintained. They have a high fat content, so they were fed out sparingly.

I have been culturing these for 2 - 2 1/2 years now, they're very prolific, I mainly use the moths as they are glittery & my day geckos are attracted to anything which flaps or flies, I have used the larvae for darts & regularly give them to my friends who keep darts, they are a great 'treat' foodstuff

I used to buy Wax moth larvae in little Deli cups back in the mid 1980's to feed to my Gecko collection.

Are they hard to get and rarely offered , these days ?

There was a shortage for a while, but they are readily available now. I buy them to feed off to my few remaining geckos, and also allow some to pupate and metamorphose into moths for tree frog food.

How about a culture guide from one of you who are having success with them?

I'm going to look into this waxmoth larvae thing. Seems like a great way to put on some weight before breeding geckos or frogs. Heck, they might even be good for some of my fish!
