Misting - How often ?
#1
I know misting varies depending on how well the viv holds humidity and all, and generally you should mist at least once a day, but the Q i have is when you mist, how much? Is few light sprays ok or is the goal to make sure the whole tank gets wet? I have been doing my research for about 2 months now, buying stuff little bit at a time & will be ready to set up my first viv with 2 azureus within the next couple months. Thanks!

You are correct - misting, in terms of maintenance, is very dependent on the Vivarium construction, ventilation or lack thereof and temperature, just to name a few variables.

You are just going to have to experiment and spray a little on the "heavy side" at first and carefully observe the tank - the plants, viv decor - wood features and most importantly, the glass sides of the interior. These will tell you, by way of condensation, how humid and well your vivarium holds to that level of humidity.

A excellent first mister / sprayer can be found in the Garden centers of stores like Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart ect. Look for the large "jug size" sprayers with the pump on the top. You charge / pump a lot until water pressure builds up and then you use the trigger (just like a gun) to spray - and the nozzle can be adjusted for a finer stream or a thick spray. They only cost @ $10.00 or so. Make sure you get a brand new one, and not one that has had "stuff" run thru it or smells of chemicals.

Hope that helps.

A false bottom with some standing water in is also be a great indicator of humidity - how long it remains and noting the level of evaporation.

A good fitting glass lid is also very important.
