Mushrooms...good or bad one?
#1
Just curious on thoughts as this just "bloomed" I guess you could say, today. It sprouted 3 days ago I believe and see 3 or 4 more like it. I have had mushrooms before pop in all my vivs but not like this. This one has been constructed for at least a year. But have been heavily misting twice a day to stimulate calling/breeding. So im concerned since I just moved its new inhabitants into it a week ago. I usually get little white ones but not like this...is it safe or should I remove them or get my frogs out?[Image: eqatybeh.jpg][Image: e8y8e3yd.jpg][Image: ubegamuq.jpg]

Excellent! Thank you...wasnt one I was use to and seen commonly in any of my vivs. So of course the concern popped immediately into my mind of potentially being harmful. Nothing new had been added besides the frogs and a huge trim session.

Mushrooms need warmth, nutrition and moisture to grow. These needs are all very effectively met in a compost pile or mulch layer, which further encourages their growth. It seem like you have a balanced mini eco system.

As long as ya don't saute it or fry it up, I think you and your frogs will be fine. I've never heard of a 'viv shroom' causing any problems for a Dart Frog.

This was an old moss mix grow tank I had from a few years ago. I ripped out all the moss and stuck it in a storage area for a long time. I never broke it down since it never had frogs in it. Just moss. Set it back up under lights and rehydrated it then let loose a few froglets to grow out and now..... yellow mushrooms!

Yea. Don't eat random mushrooms. I do hunt wild mushrooms every year for eating but I know what I'm looking for and only eat what I'm sure is OK.
