Hello folks,

I wanted to start a journal here but I am going to actually start two. I am doing a cost journal then a construction journal. I read a lot of journals on this site but few listed all the prices for everything and I thought it might be a good idea for a Newbie Like myself to see before jumping into the hobby.

Exo-terra tank 18 X18 X 24: $109.00 (on sale from $119.00)

Digital Hydrometer: $22.99

Digital Thermometer: $14.00

LECA(4 2.5 pound bags) $9.49 each total: 37.96

45 GPH pump (for drip wall) $14.25

pump tubing $4.95 (6 feet)

tube splitter (to attach to the pump at attach the tubing) $2.96 (copper)

2 foot PVC pipe (for false bottom construction) $3.97

fiberglass screening (for false bottom) $4.97 (48"" by 48")

2 bags Magnolia leaves (cause I like the way they look) $9.95.

3 pack of eco earth $9.99

FIR & SPHAGNUM PEAT MOSS MIX (10 QT) (mix with eco earth) $6.99

4 10X10 Tree fern Panels(backing) $29.97

Moss (to drape over rocks) 5.00

total investment so far $276.95

Still need to purchase the egg crate the silicone, the plants and the frogs and lighting so more to come. Pictures of the construction will be posted soon.

I was wondering about one of the items you have in your list.

I would be concerned about using this if water is going to flow through it into the frogs tank.

Hey cindy,

Thank you for your concern it's good to know people are looking out for you however, I talked to some people in the Life Sciences Program at my university and they have several tanks running this copper splitter through there tanks, both aquatic, reptillion, and amphibian and have been doing so for several years. There is no cause for concern, remember back in the 1960's copper pipe was used in potable water in homes they stopped because they are so expensive. This is a top-fin metal T-Valve, made for petsmart

Look forward to spending around $500 for accommodations to include four frogs, live plants, lighting, tank stand, etc., when all said and done...
