My batch of P. Vittatus!
#1
Hi all. I have a breeding group of P. Vittatus that I'd like to share with you! It's proving quite hard to get any kind of an amazing shot through my tank; it being so misty all the time. But, I'll do the best I can to share with you guys as much as possible!

Nikon D300s
Sigma 180mm F/3.5 EX DG HSM APO IF Macro
Manfrotto Tripod
2x 96W 5600K PC

So, let's start off with a FTS.

In it's normal condition:

Then wiped down

Here's some of the crew!

Thanks! I's proving quite hard to get shots through the tank. Not only do I have to deal with diffraction (as you can tell with the messed up dots on the legs of the last photo), I've got to work around the glass fogging up and glare from the PCs, even with a 5" lens hood! I'll keep updating.

When that large group is acclimated - few weeks to months....then you'll be able to stick the camera lens in the viv and almost touch them. They need a while to settle down and you'll get some great close up shots.

They're doing pretty good with that now. I had to wipe around a male on the glass yesterday, so I can't wait to see how they are a while from now, like you said.

Thank you all for such kind words! I shot a video this time around. Shot with my Nikon D300s and Sigma 180mm F/3.5 EX DG HSM APO IF Macro lens. I shot it on a tripod, but it's still pretty bad, to say the least. Feel free to check out the rest of my macro videos on my youtube page!

Oh it's definitely my pleasure. They're great little frogs. They don't like to let me sleep very much, but that's perfectly fine. I don't need the sleep anyway.

A few more for fun.

Each is a 2-4 shot HDR. It's hard to get any detail in the shadowed parts without it when the subject is ALWAYS backlit and 1/2 black. -_-

I know exactly why you are having egg problems...

and of course they are proven breeders.

They are from one of Aaron H.'s line. Just real, real nice coloured animals. The blues and reticulated leg patterns are exquisite. A really under appreciated hobby species.

Two things...

1. hyporvitaminosis Vitamin A.

2. Increased frequency of breeding / egg laying, leading to depletion of Vitamin A and possibly other nutrients.

Not saying the frogs were underfed or incorrectly supplemented - I used fresh Rapashy products along with Nekton rep and other quality vits, in a very good rotation. The size and body structure of the frogs looked really good IMO as well.

so....I would try to give them a break from breeding (separation) or try another fresh pack or Rapahsy (mine could have gone bad - no way to know unless it's chemically tested).

Either way....with some time, I think you will easily be able to surmount that issue and you'll have good eggs from one or more of those pairs. No worries.
