Philsuma, yes true Mexican Red legs are still available. They are Brachypelma emilia. I have one in my pics, although it is blurry. Ill post a better one soon. There are more and more species becoming readily available to the hobbyist due to CB breeding.
As far as the most handleable T? That can be debated, and has been, for some time. These are usually laid back: Grammostola rosea, Grammostola pulchra, Brachypelma albopilosum, Brachypelma emilia, Eupalaestrus campestratus, Avicularia sp.. These are just some that come to mind. Just remember that Tarantulas do not want to be held and ONLY tolerate it. To add to that, every T has its own personality and their mood can change without warning. I do not recommend handling T's (mostly cause they freak me out, LOL), I only handle my smaller s'lings.
Some T's only defense is to bite. These are old world T's and have very potent venom. New world T's generally will kick urticating hairs instead of biting. Their venom is not very potent and much like a wasp sting. Old world T's are from Asia and New world T's are from the Americas.

I like how the T hobby has all those disclaimers and warnings about not handling them, and I am a firm believer in exotic animals NOT being referred to or used as "pets"...but...If I owned a spider, I'd have to take it out and have it crawl on my hand every now and then.
