NYC Reptile store - "Fauna"
#1
I had a nice guy tell me a couple of things that I should not miss whilst on my holiday -Frog Day 2011 in Staten Island NY.

1. An awesome Reptile / Exotic animal store called "Fauna" somewhere in Manhatten ?

2. Small Mexican Restaurant on Staten Island called "Adobe Blue" -has a ton of different beers.

Phil,

I've heard of them, but I was never there. I know they sell Dart frogs. They are on the upper West side. They even have a website. They say some good things on their site

I'm not sure what part of Staten Island the show is in. Remember Manhattan is only 3 miles x 13 miles. There's a ferry that goes from Staten Island to Manhattan and you can take the subway up as well

ok, cool. That's what I need to know. I'll be driving up to the Hotel and staying for Fri, Sat and Sun and since that store is open on Sunday...I thought I may take a trip up there as it was so highly recommended.

Public transpo is probably the way to go. Never took a NYC ferry before,so that may be neat too.

I don't know what parking is like over there so if you drove and had to park in a lot your looking at anywhere between $30-$50 between tolls and parking. The ferry is free, and runs every 1/2 hour on Sundays. Here's the address for the Staten Is Ferry Terminal. You can see how far it is from where you're staying

St. George Terminal Staten Island
1 Bay Street, Staten Island, New York 10301

Outside of going to the Statue of Liberty I never took the NYC ferry myself

Chris and I made it to Fauna. VERY nice and clean pet store with a good assortment of herp supplies and even 4 different species of dart frogs and golden mantellas. Met the owner who is interested in Dart Frogs, as well. I would recommend visiting fauna.

a LOT of cool exotic birds too .I am sure they have some $1,000.00 birds in a HUGE walk in enclosure in the back of the store. Some really cool ones with a fan of feathers on their heads.

Granted, they do have a good selection of frogs, but some of the tinc morphs are looking really skinny. I do not know enough about birds to tell if they are healthy, but almost every time I go there (twice a week) one bird will put on a dancing show for me! I have grown to really like this store and if anybody is ever in NYC with free time (or not Big Grin ) they should go.
