#1
I was wondering if any one could give me a run down on these frogs, I am looking for a few things

1) size
2) life expectancy
3) best food supply
4) how many in a 42 gal tank
5) will they stay at top of tank or will thay use whole tank
6) anything else you many know about them

Those are "retail" prices....and sucky retail prices at that!

Go to a Reptile show...or BETTER yet....a local frog meet and get them for:

1. Imi - $55.00

2. Vent - $30.00

1) size? .......both are "thumbnail" sized...literally....the same.
2) life expetancy....dunno....probably over 8 years or longer
3) best food supply.....springtails and heavily seeded viv....and then Melanogaster.
4) how many in a 42 gal tank...I would do either 2.3 vents or a trio of imis.
5) will they stay at top of tank or will they use whole tank in a tall variant.....whole tank
6) any thing else you many know about them.....Vents are a better "colony" frog and do better in higher numbers.

My problem is i live in Victoria BC Canada with little to no frog meets or reptile shows ... I knwo things in the US are cheaper ... any idea who would ship to Canada? I was told to put 8-10 vents in my tank ... guess that is too many. When i asked size i meant actual size the grow too any ideas?

Well...there are many different "morphs" or Localities of imitator, ranging from as low as $45 to $200 USD depending on who you buy from.

Do you like frog calls? If you do, go for the imitator.

I highly recommend Understory Enterprises...they are based in Canada, and have many different frogs to choose from.

the imi morph was

D. imitator – orange & blue (varadero)

I absolutly love the look of the ... but way too much coin, hoping that they get one of the cheaper morphs avalable when my tank is done. What morphs are usualy cheaper? I like the Ranitomeya imitator "Bajo Huallaga ... any idea what that morph is worth?

Probably a little over half the cost of the veradero's.

That's not a super bad price for a veradero, especially for a pet store. I've seen them go for as low as 150 from breeders, but once shipping is factored in, they are about that. Mostly I've seen them between 175 and 200.
And what types of vents are they? You see the standard blue/green/gray legged go for as low as 30-35. But some like the inquios reds are usually around 60 or so, but I've seen them as high as 125 from some suppliers.

And I definitely wouldn't put that many in that sized tank. The vents are more likely to be in groups, but as with just about all thumbnails, there can be aggression, especially during breeding. Females will stop on each other's eggs and fight.
