Post merging
#1
Can I ask why the software merged individual posts in to one post as an edit as long as no one posts to the thread before subsequent posts?  To me it is annoying and there have been a few occasions it has been a pain when trying to post a link or picture.

Can that function be turned off?

Can you reference the exact thread where this happened?

The last time was in the clay springtail culture thread.  My post with the facebook embed was actually three separate posts that were merged into one.  It also happened in two earlier threads where I posted some pictures.  In those it merged pictures and text that were originally two separate posts.  Can't remember if it was my viv thread or another one.

This post here was the latest and was three posts. You can see lines in the post that delineate the three original posts: http://www.dartden.com/Thread-clay-based...9#pid58359

I'm happy to change it but I'm not really sure what you're referring to maybe take a screenshot and send it to me?

See the thread I linked in the post above. Post #15. No need to screen shot since it is right there in the thread. Each post was merged into one post. The system generated a line and inserted it between each post. Those are the lines you see in the post. I did not do that that, it was generated automatically when the software combined the posts.

I can't replicate it. I've successfully reported that my own thread and it shows separated.

I've never seen it happen anywhere else.

I think you may have hit a button somewhere like Nate said - during an edit or something.

I don't believe so because I either used the quick reply box or the new reply button and still got those results in the referenced thread.

So testing.  This was hitting the reply button and NOT an edit.

So that test did exactly what it has been doing and combined my posts and shows it as an edit but it was not.

and it even does when I hit new reply and quote someone.

Yes it works right and appears to be letting me post a new reply just as usual but I think there is something in the forum software that combines multiple consecutive posts into one post as long as no one else posts.  If someone else posts then the issue is not occurring.  I am using firefox so let me test it out with Explorer and see if it occurs.

so here is a post with Edge

and it is doing the same thing with edge so it isn't a browser issue.

ok...I did find and disable a 'merge post' setting that was set to 'merge all posts made under 60 seconds.

Lets see if that works - test it out.

So odd that my posts above made seconds apart were unaffected.
