Thanks Phil, looks like theres one less than 5 miles from me. I might have to stop in and pick her brain. Would be nice to have someone local.

Always consult a Vet prior to making a decision as to treatments with medication.

And If you are new to Dart Frogs, please do not rashly consider applying medicines to the frog yourself or based on the advice of forum members.

Raleigh NC exotic animal vet. They came highly recommended by the state veterinary pathology lab.

Edit: Around 24 bucks for fecals. They do house calls (may be of interest to local folks )
Do you know where your frogs have been?

Sorry, I ran out of edit time. Wanted to add that the Avian and Exotic animal vet in Raleigh was at the last exotic animal show, here at our fairgrounds, in May. That's where I first found them. I'll look for them at the next show (Sept 3 and 4) and see if I can found out more about prices.

Tufts Veterinary School in North Grafton, MA (noticed a couple people lived in MA) has two new Exotics Vets. Dr. Jennifer Graham and Dr. Julie DeCubellis. It's around 45-60 mins from Boston.

Thanks for the post; it re-ignited my search for a local vet with frog experience. Found this site which may be of interest to Texans:
http://texasreptiles.com/reptileveterinarians.html

I contacted two Austin vets from the list for quotes on exams and fecals.
  • North Austin Animal Hospital - $51 exam, $35 fecal
  • Research Pet & Bird Hospital - $68 exam, $28 to $69 fecal
Both initially stated an exam would be required to run a fecal. I did expressed a concern about lugging healthy frogs over to their office to one vet (seemed like unnecessary stress on the animals) and they said they would review pictures of the frogs instead and run the fecals. Thought the pricing may be of interest (I have no idea if this is "normal pricing", just throwing it out there).

Great idea to try to negotiate with Vets on 'office visits". One vet told me that they had to come over and look at my entire frog room....uh...no thanks.

Keep on going to the next vet until you negotiate with one that wants to HELP and make money and not turn people away with $$ office visits ect for a tiny frog poop.

I KNOW they have bills and students loans for Vet School to pay....so do I....I have bills to pay as well.

Negotiate.

My local exotic vet that I use for fecals just gave me a quote for Chytrid and Ranavirus testing at $160 per frog. My thought was to have it done professionally to begin with and then do my own swabbing and send it out. Does this seem a tad bit high to everyone?

I really was hoping to avoid shipping. With NAIB, National Zoo, "the hot zone" and the biotech corridor all within a 1 hour drive of me, I was hoping to find a local lab.

However with that pricing, shipping might be my only option.
