WaterMarked Images - POTM and Gallery here
#1
We had a request from Rich F, to try to watermark or otherwise protect his showcased pic- Feb POTM and since it is displayed so tantilizingly on our homepage, we agreed.

As a result of the plug in / coding, all pics and photos in the "Gallery" or "Albums" had to have that same watermark applied.

NO regular postings and posted pics will EVER have any sort of waterwark from us and we will eventually look into a mechanism whereby only the POTM and POY will have the watermark.

Bumping this thread due to a question about the "Watermark".

The visible Dart Den.com Cobalt Tinc logo on the Lower right corner of the Homepage "Picture of the Month, or POTM photo is indeed the watermark that is protecting that image. Can it be removed, chopped of or otherwise circumvented ? Sure. Anyone can hack anything these days.

The important thing is that it IS protected here - like all the photos, and if anyone ever sees an image from this site displayed somewhere else (I found one of mine on someone else's Facebook page) ,we will promptly seek to "fix" any such issues brought to our attention, for the service of our members.

I caught a kid on facebook using my imitator lounging on a leaf pic. I sent him a message informing him that I was the original photographer and I tagged myself in the picture. He was enamored to speak to the person that captured the photo he found during a google image search and left the tag. I don't mind if my photo is used in that circumstance as long as no one else I trying to take credit for it. I had that once with a youtube mandarin spawning video. I found it in a link back and they where taking credit for the video. I called them out and demanded that they remove the video or give me credit.

D3monic, I have your imitator lounging on that leaf on my desktop. It was pre-watermark but it's so perfect for a desktop. Hope you don't mind. I promise I won't post it around. Big Grin

Put the pic on a black background and it looks great on a desktop. I have my benedicta on one monitor and my reticulata on the other monitor.

Black background makes them really pop out.

No it wasn't me and I just checked the copy on my computer. It's not full res. I wonder if you could figure out who got your full res pic by looking at the thread of that pic?

Just got a PM about possible "Ripped Photos" from DD appearing "somewhere".

ALL the POTM pics AND Gallery pics have the Dart Den logo on the bottom right corner. THAT Dart Den Cobalt image is exactly what the current 3.8 version of this Bulletin board recommends and uses to protect ALL of its clients / users images.

THAT IS a watermark and it HAS been checked and rechecked at a high level to insure that it works as such - a proper watermark. In this day and age, it is entirely and easily possibly for any given 14 year old with $99.00 worth of Walmart software to crop and photoshop EVERY SINGLE image out there short of U.S currency ,so if someone has ripped a photo here, at least I took all reasonable steps to protect it.

If anyone can verify an image has been ripped and USED / displayed elsewhere , I encourage you to start a thread here and I'll back you 100% and help.

*** Additional Information about watermarks and images***

The watermarked DD logo will NOT show up on your OWN image. The watermark will only show up on OTHER people's images. I think THIS is the exact issue creating confusion for some of you. Your Gallery and POTM images will appear without the watermark - but only to you. ANY other person viewing the image WILL SEE the watermark.

I jsut double checked this entire process. My own gallery images appear "blank" or without the DD logo / watermark. I then looked at Rich Fryes images and copied them 3 different ways to files / my hard drive and other docs and in ALL CASES, the watermark logo transferred perfectly.

Also

Watermarks from Dart Den can only be applied to images uploaded to the Gallery here. If you are using a photobucket or other photo hosting site, we cannot watermark those images, for instance.

Folks, this forum / website is the same as the others - no more loose or less protected.

I have often drooled on your photos, and I will hold your movies on YouTube "responsible" for my choice with darts when I am "mature" and my new build is "cycled"... Idea

- But what I wanted to say is that, send them a bill with a claim signed by your lawyer. :!:
