What does your hobby smell like?

Hi guys, am back with another newb question.

I haven't heard you guys talk much about the smell involved in keeping frogs and breeding Ffs.
I have a GF that is not exited at All about my new passion.
I would like to know what to expect and as usual get tips on what to do to keep Ms. Naked's nose happy.

that's actually a great question!

The substrate / earth ect in the Vivarium should have an 'earthy' smell. Even with some water in the false bottom, there is no real 'bad' smell at all.

Some stinky smells:

Rotting bromeliads
Hydei fly cultures past the 30-35 day mark

'regular' melanogaster fly cx's smell a little yeasty - like beer. Nothing bad at all. A tiny bit 'funky' perhaps.

Thank you.

Is one type of false bottom smelly-er than others ? Egg crate vs hydro balls etc ?

Do broms tend to rot frequently ? Do you usually throw them away when they rot ?
Same thing for the FF culture ?

Meh, funky is ok.

Thanks
