Hamm - The Big German Exotic Animal show thread

Was talking with Flemming and he mentioned Hamm. What's funny is one of the biggest U.S show is the HamBURG reptile show in Pennsylvania.

Anyway....let's talk about the European show here. Pics as always, are welcome too.

I'd love to see some pics...dreamed about taking a trip to Hamm for years. Was talking to a couple of German guys the other day that had gone and both said it was amazing.

Its very difficult to take photos inside the show, there is technically a ban on all cameras entering however this is impossible to police, all I managed last year was a quick snap before I paid to get in - ironically it was of the poster advising me that no photography is allowed.

I will try to sneak a few snaps this year if possible.

There are always plenty of Dart sellers attending and an equal amount of dart specific dry goods vendors there too.

My one major grumble is that I did see a few animals of very questionable origin for sale, some openly, some not

Germans always have the good stuff!

SO what would be the best reptile show over here in the states?

I used to bring a bunch of Darts with good variety however the problem became all the hobbyists selling in the hotel and parking lots. So I have huge overhead and taxes from doing the show properly, and I cannot compete with individuals not playing by the rules. So now I get to not do Daytona, and watch people whine about lack of frogs at that show, there were a few more that hung it up on that show beside me. Breeders cannot afford to spend a bunch of money to sit there with there frogs and not make anything.

Last I heard they were$300.00. Then you have the electric $85.00, then you figure hotel,$129.00 a nite, we had van rental for $200.00 plus, food roughly $150.00, then I had to hire a house sitter for animal care, dog care, and security for the house another $150.00. So you see playing by the rules can't survive those that don't.

I guess pumpin' out tincs and getting rid of them ain't as easy as 'the gold ol' days'...maybe time to shift gears.
I'd be very interested on the spin the show is putting out on the photo ban.
Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

Not sure about Hamm however this rule is in place for all uk shows with the reasoning being that photos could be being taken and used by one of the anti reptile keeping groups. I'll check for you when I visit the show in a couple of weeks.

Not much fuel for them if the animals are kept properly...
