lots of orchids & 46 Bowfront for Leucs
#1
So my second viv is finally finished, and I've got it planted enough that I feel like it's time to show off a little. The tank is going to house a group of 4 leucs within the next few months. My lighting is in the mail right now, so the pictures were taken with temporary lights borrowed from my 6 gallon tank. There are a couple of waterproof fans built into the background to provide air circulation for the orchids.

The tank is pretty well planted now, but there are a few more things I'd like to add. Mostly more jewel orchids and smaller plants to fill in the gaps. I'd like a Ludisia discolor in the front left corner, along with a couple species of Anoectochilus. I'll probably add more Macodes petola near the african violets on the right, and move the Goodyera up to the top terrace under the broms if it can handle the low light there. I'm looking for a Haraella odorata and a few more small Bulbophyllums and Pleurothallis, and maybe Dendrobiums. I'm definitely open to suggestions for plants to fill in the space between the orchids. I might try a Nepenthes if I can find a small enough one.

I'm pretty happy with the way this one turned out. I hope it'll be a good home for the leucs.

Your water section is rad! I really like the stream. The whole thing is beautiful. I'd really like to see this one is person! Great job with the planting and thanks for sharing the plant list.
I would like to know:
What substrate did you use?
Is there a false bottom?
What pump are you using?

What do you have for a top on that bowfront? I can't seem to find a tight fitting one anywhere? Is yours homemade?

Awesome tank.

Gonna be tough but maybe try to get some leaf litter in there...maybe in the back or corner. Essential for good springtail production.

Hi Steve, did you reply to the questions various people asked you about construction of your "46 bowfront for Leucs...lots of orchids"? I'm brand new to this method of communication and don't necessarily understand how everything works. Yours is my favorite viv ever!!! I would like to construct a similar water feature . What kind of pump did you use to produce such a strong water flow? Is it on a timer or do you leave it on all the time? What lights do you use to keep your plants so happy? Do you have a drainage system in your 46 tank? How about a misting system? Many thanks for your advice. (Any chance I could just call you on the phone for a 10 minute conversation? I'm in total awe of what you've created and I need some guidance!!) Many thanks.....
