that was a dumb idea-crickets
#1
i decided to see if my 3 azureus would like to try very small crickets. so i dusted 2 very small-but not pinhead sized, crix. immediately, the crix hid under the leaf litter. never to be seen again. and my frogs were MAD. they knew something was in there, but they could not stir them up. so i tossed in a few Hydei flies to keep them happy. but i have not seen the crickets. i now have to hope they don't chew on my frogs. idk why i did not think they would hide under the leaf litter.

I use to feed crickets to my frogs, pinheads and 5 days. they would eat them but I never really had a lot of leaf litter in my tanks. mine never got to adult size either. and never did see any frog nibbling crickets.

You are in the lucky minority then Walt. Usually a portion of feeder crickets hide, survive and grow. I've seen crickets chew and kill various larger lizards. Marcus B. Told me he has seen roaches eat adult dart frogs.

Crickets are MUCH more proven to carry disease, coccidia ect.

They are not a normal prey item of a wild dart frog.

Cricket diets have been reported to result in impaction and rectal prolapse of dart frogs.

yeah i will not do that again. this morning as i turned off their blue night light, and turned on their daytime LEDs, i saw one of the crickets. but as the light came on, he hid. they are still very small, and i'm hoping they either get caught, or die quickly. i guess i was thinking it would be fun for the girls to hunt something new. i'll stick to FF from now on. And Bean beetles.

Take a small dowel rod, a ruler or something similar and squish down on where they scoot under something. Crush em' before they get too big.
