Is there a 'war' of forums over there? I see a relatively new UK Forum 'Poison Frog'. Is the original UK forum - Dendroworld still active and used.

Wotz the status boys?

Not really a war Phil. Poisonfrog.org opened its doors and people basically moved there. There aren't many of us certainly not enough to warrant two forums.

What's going to happen with all the archived info from DW, then?

Pretty much concur Ben. Phil, I'm not so good with computers and kept getting blocked access to DW,when time is short or one is affected with my computer savvy, these might also be players.

But where I utterly concur with Ben is that we ALL need to be sharing accumulated wisdom in one place. Life ain't like that though Phil, tis a bugger, but it is how it is.

Anyway dude,we are way to busy trying to work out how to roast these godamn MF chestnuts, without them exploding, and setting relatives on fire,to be fighting forums wars

Oh soddit, mum's smoking AGAIN  Confusedhock:

must dash

Ha a smile and a laugh are fine things bro, my get out of jail card when things are tough. But, I never have a clue whether you guys will get it though Phil, man i'm too sharp for many here, always having to rein it in abit.

Phil, I'm not sure what will happen to DW,I really hope it keeps going,as I do with all fora,I think all are losing out to face ache at the moment, and these resourses(fora),which lets face it are incredible are not being used to best advantage,as you say the archives are so important !!

Phil fingers crossed for us,i'm not sure how up to date my room thread is here, none of them are on the money at the moment due to time constraints, But I might just get our first summersi ootw for chimbo, very very close now, yeah I know slim picking for a chimbo dinner Confusedhock: Seriously though this is one we have to have now,we've waited for so long so damn close last time, you watch we'll struggle a while longer then bam they'll be all ways. Can't believe the size of the tad,it's huge, definitely closing on the tincs i've reared at morphout.

Have a good un mate,no peace for the wicked here I'm working, happy days,12 days off in a year and can't even swing a break at christmas. that's where the sense of humour comes in mate

Just saw the above queries on Dendroworld.
I need to start looking a bit harder lol.
The forum is still going and is in the middle of a transition to a new owner.
I agree with the comment that there was no point in the other forum but it was someones wish to do it.
All it does though is cause divisions and split up what is already a small hobby.

I agree.
It would be a shame if it closed as there is so much information stored in there.
But it is like any other forum, if people don`t use it then it will die.
Hopefully though once the change over is complete it will turn around.
I don`t know what it is with the forums just now but they are all a bit quiet and I can only presume that people are all happier wasting their lives on facepish.
The sad part is that anything posted on there gets lost under a pile of junk posts, unlike dedicated forums like DW and on here where everything is categorised and can be found quite easily.
New forums of course don`t help the situation, but make it worse by fragmenting the hobby and splitting everyone up between different places.

Phil, all I can do is say amen to Mike's post.

For all the brits here, the next BAKS meet (British amphibian Keepers Society) will happen in April. Here's a link to the site so anyone that hasn't been before can join and and come and have some fun and talk phibs:

http://www.b-a-k-s.co.uk/

Phil, Mike above is an inspiration to all here,he travels down from Scotty to each and every one of these meets(makes me think of Glenn popping down from canuck land),he is also on the committee. Naturally I can't understand a bloody word the bugger says and most times even though we are side by side with tables we hardly get chance to speak anyway, too many folks and friends to speak to as we both try to spread the word on dart keeping. But I feel you guys should know how hard and how much effort this rascal  puts in to our hobby. Always there helping a new guy this one Phil,he's much like you only younger  Confusedhock:
Sorry Mike needed saying('ere why don't the yanks have the sticky out tongue icon...civilized I guess  )

Take care both

Hiya Stu me ole mucker.
Hope you and Shaz are keeping well.
You`ll be getting me all embarrassed again lol with your comments, but it`s nice that people appreciate what I do.
Hopefully this next time around we WILL get a chance for a proper chat lol.
But don`t forget that you also do your best as well.
Just a shame that others can`t get off their butts and help out as well.
At the end of the day the hobby will die if people don`t support it, but what can we do other than keep nipping their heads.
Tell you what Stu I`m really hoping to be able to pop in for a visit this year as it looks like I`ll be down your neck of the woods at some point.

You'ld be welcome kiddo, although sleeping options are redundant, every spare room is froggied up to the ceilings. Ahh buddy it's ok to pop up some good words for folks that try, it's truth printed above you do travel pop in the graft and are always trying for the new guy. I've always liked the fact we don't always agree with each other but still have a crack, oft this gives us more to pass forwards, slightly different perspectives and friendship is no bad thing man.

take care

Don`t worry Stu no bed needed, but a cuppa would be good lol.
Having a disagreement during a discussion is often how solutions can be found though.
The important thing Stu is that we don`t fight over it, we find answers.
Several phone calls about springtails comes to mind, and boy did we crack that beast.
Say hi to Shaz mate.

It's stating the obvious but if folks don't have spending money they don't buy frogs and aren't brought into the hobby. Existing keepers don't breed their frogs because they don't want to sell them for peanuts and also don't buy new and exciting frogs to post about on forums. In my experience with new keepers it's usually the frogs that come first and forum membership/hobby meetings come later. I'm sure it's just a cycle and when people feel a bit more flush they will start buying again and the other facets of the hobby will pick up also....

Regarding DW, I agree that there is some useful info there but, let's be honest, the forum platform was/is a bit crap..... I don't use forums much so think of myself as pretty impartial, and I don't really want to spend 10 minutes logging on followed by a trip into every category to circumvent the headline spam posts on the main page. If a better 'product' is offered it's hardly surprising that people go for it - especially newcomers.

Nick,

Years back there were spam and log in problems. I don't see that now. I stay logged in always, like here so the site 'remembers' me and I click on 'new posts' and blamo...all the new posts. It's php based like this forum. I think DW works fine.

And it`s the same with me on Dendroworld.
I`m logged in most of the time to chuck them out as and when they show themselves.
But do you ever get any thanks Phil ?
No neither do we.
They all bunk off to facepish and blame the spammers.
Nick have you ever been to a MAD bimonthly meet ?
If you had been you`d be hard pressed to see frogs for sale.
It`s a meeting for frog keepers to have a chat amongst each other and have a laugh.
If frogs are sold it`s usually by prior arrangement so money doesn`t enter into it.
It is more about people not bothering to get off their backsides to help the meets grow.
