i am looking for a larger amount of driftwood that is suitable for a dart vivarium "like cypress or ghost wood". does anyone know a place where i can find this wood cheaper than $22 to $26 each large piece? thanks

ebay is the place. Just ordered a ton of it for less than $50 shipped!

Did you get your driftwood from them? If so, were you impressed? How much was shipping. Can there wood be used in an freshwater aquarium? In other words, is it the sinking type?

I have not ordered any wood from them. They look reasonable on the price but just havent needed any yet.

I want the driftwood for both my frogs and my freshwater tanks. I prefer if the wood is a natural sinker, but I guess I could do it myself!

I would ask Rich, he did get some from them. He seemed happy.

I just collect my wood locally at Red Field, i have a pressure washer so i just blast it to remove any bugs or such. i haven't had any problems, i have 7 tanks with the wood in it and molding hasn't been an issue. and i found some beautiful root buttresses, also i went out in my woods, and collected some roots which have already started growing moss after 2 months.

I haven't bought any wood from anyone, except the one time i purchased cork bark, www.blackjungle.com has some wood, but i think they are a little steep on the prices.

Did you take the bark off the wood? Do you know what kind of wood it is?

yea, when i blasted the wood with my pressure washer it removed any small pieces of the bark , but most was already gone, as for the type of wood, iai am not sure, arent really any good areas of bark to tell, and i am not sure what they are by the grain.

Ok thanks for replying to my other post also. I had never thought of using wood from around here, might have to give it a try.

yea just watch it closely, i find that wish most woods, that will initially mold a little, but after a month or so, it recedes and the wood stops molding. For most of the drift wood i've collected, it hasn't molded, and the ones that have, quickly stoped molding. good luck

I am curious about driftwood. I am planning my first vivarium and I have lots of great driftwood spots here on the california central coast. Does natural driftwood pose health threats to dart frogs? Can it be used and if so what precautions and preparations should I take? Thanks!

Yea, its worked well for me, just stop by some lakes and look in the piles of drift wood , if you see some pieces you like , take them home and scrub them down with a stiff bristle brush, or use a pressure washer like i did lol, just be sure to remove any dirt and left over bark, also when choosing pisces, go with the ones that look pretty clean already, to ensure they have been drifting for awhile.

I wonder if you are getting the driftwood from the coast if the salt would have an effect? I guess if you washed it and soaked it it wouldn't be a problem. I would think the salt might be a little irritating to the frog if there was a lot on the wood.
