I have some pictures of the construction.

A little chamber I made under the false bottom where I put the pump. It has been many months now and no clogged pumps.

The false bottom was made very sturdy so It can hold up this heavy rock.

These pictures are somewhat old, but while I was updating my other threads, I realized I never posted these here at the Dart Den.

Enjoy! and ask questions if you want.

hey frank,

i've been looking at all the tanks you posted and they are really nice. what kind of wood did you use in the background of this one. i love it. reminds me a bit of the one cindy posted not too long ago. i'm definitely going to copy that style for the background on my next "waterfall" tank.
The petstore that sold me that driftwood had it labeled as "African Root." I have used it in lots of vivariums without any problems. I like it because it has lots of holes which helps to plant broms.

Wonderful tank !!! I love the 3d look of the background coming towards you on the right side. Nice looking frogs as well ! I see you did not do the standard INSIDE black out below substrate level. I opted not to do it either, but instead masked out the exterior glass and used spray paint to black out the substrate level. WORKS GREAT ! I did 3 light coats. Easier and cheaper than resorting to using GE II on the inside the black out Wink Look on my latest post-- you'll see the black out on the 35 gal.
Carlos
Thanks for the comment!
I left a space between the false bottom and the glass so it could be filled with rocks. I like the look of the rocks. I would only black it out if the egg crate false bottom were visable.

You said these pics are old - any chance of an update? Beautiful viv!
Ok, some broms have passed away, some plants as well.. A bunch of mold is growing on the background in the wet spots. There are scales on the broms. Oh well.. heres some updated pics..

However I am noticing one of the galacts calling. At least I see him, I dont hear anything, but I see his throat expanding for 20 seconds at a time. Smile

Frank
Well put them a coco hut and a petri dish in there and see if you get lucky......er.. um....I mean see if THEY get lucky!

Looks nice! Too bad you had problems with the plants...Add some leaf litter and it should make the tank look really nice.
Today I noticed some wrestling, one frog had the other pinned down pretty agresively. I didnt think galacts would fight. :?
If they are in the breeding mode, wrestling is possible.

Do you know what sex ratio you have?
Keep an eye on them to be sure the aggression does not escalate
I do not know the ratio. They all look the same in body shape and size except one. The one smaller one has always been smaller than the rest and is a bit lighter in color, and this is the frog that was getting pinned down the other day. However, this is the frog I see the most. He/she is always out and about, hunting for springtails or whatever.
All 6 were just out right now and eating, I got a good look at all of them, they all appear happy and healthy. Ill definately look for more agression or suffering animals.
Thanks for the tips.
Would you suggest the wrestling frogs are females?

Frank
Wrestling frogs could be males also in this case. Galacs are difficult to sex, but the males will be a little slimmer than the females.
I tossed some film cannisters in the viv and found some eggs in one soon after. I doubt they are good, but at least I know I have a pair in there!

WOO HOOO!
That's great! Galac eggs are white/light grey, so until you are sure they are bad, don't throw them out.

Wow! very nice!

Geoffrey

Very cool!
Love this tank Frank!
Who supplied you Galacts?

metalbernd

Very nice tank, do you have picteres from the dekking off the tank? it is an Juwel tank, how did you coverd the tank?

I'm from holland, my englisch is not so good.
Hey. I got the galactonotus from pumilio.com (Thomas Villeges)

The tank is made from Marineland. It came with an aquarium style lid. I really like working with these tanks!

Thanks for the comments!
