That's incredible. Looks like their future in this country is pretty well assured.

Thanks Dane,
No need to be sycophantastic (JK) yet though, assured is a very strong word.
I am happy.

Do you think the space is a main factor?
or would you say the amount of micro fuana in there is more of a factor?

Rich will answer your question, but I think the main factor is the space because of what the space leads to including:
-more microfauna
-better temp/humidity gradient
-more security
-cleaner (more space for poo, so less concentration as opposed to a 10 gallon)
-etc.
I really think that larger tanks should be the direction our hobby should head. Maybe the 5 gallon per frog rule should be modified.

Nice Josh,
Well summed up, but this is the best;
"Maybe the 5 gallon per frog rule should be modified."
I would like to do another spinnoff....and elaborate on the 6000+ viewed topic of Uber.

I few more advantages I thought of tonight to fit in my previous post:
-more broms means more choices (didn't someone do a study on pumilio brom selection)
-excercise due to larger area and less condensation of food.
Rich, please do the spinoff. I would love to talk about this issue.
I get asked how all the time how many frogs people should put together in a terrarium. I always say 1 frog per 5 gallons is the minimum they should work from. I know bigger is better, but how do we decide the minimum?

'how do we decide the minimum?'
SQ Ft per living space ......or like I said study on UBER!
Not one of these frogs were collected within any space now being used to move forward as CBs....my guess.

Hey Rich,
I think you need to change the name of this thread to "HUGE amounts of Darklands!"
Awesome job on this "enclosure", by the way! And congratulations on all the froglets.

Good answers Josh and Rich.
I had figured it was the size but had to ask....
Rich have you ever taken a leaf litter sample and seen what kind of Micro fauna is crawling around? it would be really interesting to find out?
When I get back to the states and settled I plan on making a few large viv's maybe a block of 4ft cubes? not as big as the Uber but still a heck of alot larger than a 10 nor even 15 high tank.
I agree with the micro climate differances being important have you ever check temprature humidity levels of differant areas of the Uber?
Sorry for all the Q's but this really intrests me.

I saw in some of the pics of the Uberviv that it looked like you used duct tape to seal some of the seams. Have you had any problems with leaks?
01-20-2006, 07:09 PM
Hey Dane,
No leaks. I sealed the duct tape with both GS and silicone to make sure of it. It is in a "mud room" so I was not too concerned if there was a tiny bit of moister. But so far, so good.
Josh and Paul.
I will start a separate topic on going big when I get a bit of time. Trying to catch up on actual frog work for a few days. There are tons of things to discuss on huge set ups.
