Seriously, I heard one someone was feeding (cultivating?) sugar ants once upon a time.

Does anyone do that?

Also, I met a new pal who was into horned lizard rescue. He sells harvester ants at what seems like a great price.

They would be too big (and feisty?) for my thumbs, but could anyone use them for bigger darts?

Todd
addendum:
It seems like some ant variety would be good for them, and I would try those teeny sugar ants if anyone else has done it with any success.

BTW. Just saw another ant post ... soo... maybe I should have searched first.

anyway, any additional insight would be appreciated. thanks!
I searched for ya Todd....not only is there nothing much here on the use of ants, but I havent heard of ANYONE culturing or even using them.
Don't know if anyone uses ant's for Dart Frogs but here's a couple kool vids. A quick search for formicarium will get you some ant guys.

Can we get a short insight of this, from who has some experience with feeding ants to darts? It surely would be an easy and cheap alternative for feeding fruit flies (which are sold quite rarely here).
I have never heard of anyone culturing or feeding ants to Dart Frogs here in the U.S

Fruit Flies are the staple, by far.
Is there anything, why no one has considered this so far?
I had heard of someone who said they knew someone who had raised "sugar ants" to feed their frogs... but didn't give any name(s). One if those "friend of a friend" things.
Was it just a myth to cloud my mind? :? Like Bigfoot or the Lock Ness monster?... does anyone know if its was/is true?
Is their any documentation of the gut contents of various dart species in the wild?
(although I don't like the thought of them being randomly cut open to study, I must admit.)
I am curious. Exactly what insects give darts their extra poison kick? I assumed that it was due to the formic acid and toxins in ants.
Anyone? any insight?
Todd
I think Ants are part of it...but I read somewhere that soil mites have a lot to do with it also.
