I completed my new set up. It's an 12x12x18 exo terra and is a home for two young leucomelas. I have a exo terra monsoon misting system as well. What do you guys think?

I will be posting a video soon with my construction.
thanks!

looks pretty good to me, although i am a noobie =)
Is that just a screen top or do you have some glass covering it to keep humidity in? Leucs, while able to climb some would be much more appreciative of a tank that was wider not necessarily taller. AKA more floor space. Good call on Leaf litter. Also with proper humidity the water dish would be unnecessary.

Off to a decent start though.
Looks very good !

You can use that tank (since it's one of the smaller models) as kind of a grow-out for those leucs. Leucs will get bigger and outgrow the footprint (bottom or flat area) like Michael said. They do climb when young, especially to "roost" at night - get off the ground to avoid predators like spiders, scorpions and centipedes but when they get older, larger, more heavy bodied, they really climb a lot less and are active on the ground much more...but for 6-14 months....you can absolutely use that tank, no problem.

Let us know how that Monsoon works ! I'm interested in them. Is it the "New" model, do you know ?
I am hoping to get some more species in the future once I graduate and move away from renting.
I thought they would like this size because they love climbing. I also had trouble with tanks breaking while being shipped. I should of ordered from Joshsfrogs in the first place.

Yes, it is the new Monsoon, I ordered a little while back, they took awhile to get shipped into the US. Works great. I hooked it up with a Timer for the light as well so they both go off at night. When the timer comes back on the mister goes right to the cycle mode. Nice fine mist to. Love it.
Great Avatar !

Where do you live (abouts) ? You know the annual Petco $1.00 a gallon sale is coming up !!

Do you have a glass top ?..doesn't look like it from the pic. Even though you have an auto misting system.....a glass lid is really important.
What is the petco $1 sale ? I'm in the up of Michigan. No petco up here. But I am traveling downstate this summer.
I don't have a glass top, why do I need one if my humidity is above 80 ?
Evaporation and loss of humidity is a tricky biatch.....that more often than not, fools even the most advanced hobbyists.

Unless you have a $25-50 humidity gauge.....otherwise your gauge may be off....often...."off". Never trust ANY gauge - even "good digital ones".

What happens if you have a warm or hot day...AC conks out...Monsoon goes tats up and fails ? No lid. Evap and humidity goes right out the roof.

Trust us....we've been doing this a long time. Get a GLASS top / or top(s) -2 small ones, cut for you at LOWES or Homedepot. You frogs will thank you.

Here's a couple Petco Stores in Central Michigan...Mt Pleasant, Midland.....

Thanks! So the sale is $1 per gallon for any tank? Including the Exo teras? Do you know when the sale is? I will have to pick up some glass. Like 2 pieces to go on top of the screen top? One under the light, that's okay right? Thanks for the help.
Here's the info and dates on the Petco sale...only certain fish tank sizes...no Exoterras:

Make a cardboard tracing of the two halves of the top of your exo - over top of the screen top. I guess you are gonna have to account for your Monsoon system, if that is involved with your tank top.

Go to LOWES or Home depot with the the cardboard tracings and have them cut 2 pieces of glass - should only be $4 - 6.00 max. You need to sandpaper the edges of the glass - dull them so they are not sharp. You can also silicone a little knob to one or both of them so you can pop them off or slide them occasionally.

The 2 little glass lids will just lay on top of the screen.
awesome. Do you guys buy exo terras or do you just buy regular tanks and get conversion kits like from AAA depending on horz/vert species? I love the double doors and the slots for the misting system/sensor cords on my exo.
no lowes around Sad there's a local glass store, they are really overpriced, especially when women come in :\ but we'll see.
Exoterras seem to be the #1 hit right now....most hobbyists use them. Front opening enclosures are the way to go - so much easier to maintain.

The vert kits are OK...but you can install them "poorly" (leakage) if you are a newbie. The Exoterras and Zoomeds are comparable in price - it's easier to use them.
I got glass from a glass shop it was 12.00 1/8" thick roughly 16"x 14"

I'll cut the glass if you cover the shipping, I have lots of 1/8" scrap that just gets thrown away most of the time. Those tops would fit easily inside a medium flat rate box ($10.95).

Exo, Zoo Med, and vert kits are not the only options for front opening enclosures... Tongue
