Chris, are you still using that Humidifier for your frogs?

Kaz 5520B Personal Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier.

Model is discontinued but bought out by Vicks - unsure if a similar 'chimney' that doesn't need to be mod-ed is made.

Used to be able to get them on eBay for $20-$40 bucks.

I just picked this one up. It has a removable spout so you can do what was shown above in the pictures. Only issue I'm having is the adapter piece I bought doesn't go in far at all so with the hoses hooked up, it falls right out. I'm waiting for silicone to dry to see if it'll hold if not, I'm going to have to do some sanding and grinding to get it to fit in further.

I'd also be interested...love the fog and I believe it could be beneficial for a breeder tank...

Lol - you keep planting these ideas in my head...actually I was tinkering with a cheap CVS humidifier this weekend! Its going back but I may mess with another one soon. I think a squirrel cage fan is next on the queue though Smile

I've been eyeing my kids humidifier which seems perfect for a quick mod:

Slip a tube over the trunk and you are good to go. Not biotope specific though Wink

The one I posted above, I got from Kmart for $30. Haven't quite finished it yet and still waiting to get the glass drilled but I've done quick tests. On low setting it takes about 90 seconds to fill my 40 breeder.

I've had a lot of success with the Hagen submersible fogger - I have a pond feature, only about an inch deep, so i just set it in the pond - and it fogs the lower levels of the tank, and keeps a lot of humidity in the air. I found its the only way my aratus and truncatus will even leave their hiddey hole.
I do have one question though - if the male brings the tadpoles to the water and the fogger is on, will this affect the tadpoles - since its ultra sonic, will this harm them or will they even notice?

I don't know for certain, but I do know it can melt plastic and hurts like hell if you put your hand over it.

Yeah, the exposed disc and surrounding water gets really hot doesn't it. hot + water that frogs can get near = can't be good.

All those 'disc' foggers that are cheap - halloween stores for witches cauldrons ect. They are all dangerous trash. Prone to heating up and frequent malfunction.

Use a 'human grade' product like Vicks, ect, for sale at walmart.

Actually, no the disc doesn't get hot, and it is from Hagen which is made specifically for use in terrariums. The water temperature hasn't changed.
While you are unfamiliar with 'the dangerous trash' that 'gets really hot doesn't it' is made specifically for this use, I am. Please don't assume that not everyone is a green beginner just because this might have been a first post, and keep comments civil.

My original questions may need a little clarification - would the ultra sonic vibrations affect the tadpoles?

Put your hand over it while it's running, it will hurt I promise you. It will melt plastic if it's above it. I personally wouldn't leave it where anything living would be able to place itself above it.

well, considering i just touched it, and its not hot, I'd like to hear opinions from people who have actually used this product. If you haven't you don't need to answer.
Thank you

You're looking for someone to give you the answer you want. I didn't say to touch it, I said put your hand over it while it's running.

Morning guys, has anyone ran a Ultrasonic Humidifier on a row of tanks? I'm in the middle of finishing up a custom rack that will hold 7-18x18x24 Vivs per row and 3 rows high, Any ideas or best option? Thanks

Yep...the large 'human grade' units picture above will easily fog 2-3 medium/large vivs, maybe even four. The desired output is variable. You are just gonna have to test fire the unit up and see what comes out vs all your vivs. Not hard really. You actually do not want to recreate Dagobah or the Bespin cloud city. Just a decent amount of mist a few times a day - for effect mainly, IMO.

Mount the units on top of the shelving - above the vivs. The condensation can build up in a kink or twist of a tube and cut off all your fog. I use black aquarium grade tubing, that way, mold is less likely to get a foothold than in a clear tube.

Plumb them in the vivs or use a reducer PVC tube just like you are plumbing a water or misting line. Post pics when you advance your system please. I'd love to see a large rack plumb job.

Best fogger by far....forget about that house of hydro DIY stuff. This is better, easier and probably cheaper.
