awww wtf! It held water all day while I was at work hyrdotesting...I came down stairs this morning and half the freaking water has drained out

Nutz. Actual puddles? Or leaking past the barrier?
Possibly "wicking" up the ramp into the substrate?

dunno...ohh well. Main reason I did it was to keep the pond clear. Tannins tend to make the water stink and brown I was trying to avoid it. Hopefully since the leak is small in nature it will keep the ucky water out for the most part. I can always saturate the substraight until my pond is the level I want.....just adds more weight to an already heavy viv sitting on a unsupported counter top.

Michael,
would it be possible to line your pond area with pond liner material?

You would need to take everything out of the water area, dry it thoroughly,
and silicone it in place. I've used this before with good results. The the water
area being small, you would need to get the thin stuff so it is easier to work with.

Thanks, it was a quick and budget build. Might still put some more plants in but I am still observing their behaivor to determine what kind of landscape they would prefere. They really don't seem to venture down to the water much. They really like the clay background though.

I figured they would seeing as they live next to streams.

So far I am noticing that the water section was pretty much pointless. Other than when they where first put in I never see them in the water. They DO how ever really love the clay background. I find them picking at it and all but one of the caves i made have been claimed as hides.

maybe, I also contemplated a small river through the tank. Maybe if I ever do a large mixed tank (eek that word!) I might do that.

After doing some additional research I have found that these are technically concidered Bi-color crabs, vampire are another color morph all together. .

Dangit, I want some of these crabs! Dibbs on some babies? Good info about the caves in the background for the crabs. I remember reading elsewhere that they like to burrow as well. Do you have any filtration running in the pond?

no not yet, petco has a small filter that will work perfect for like $12 but I just don't have any $$ right now. Waters already starting to get a little funky. I will probably do a water change tomorrow. Hopefully friday I can afford one but thats mortgage, car insurance and walmart card payment check. I will be lucky to get enough grocerys

Aw man. I'm sorry to hear that. I've been selling some stuff to fund hobbies lately. Your tanks seem pretty heavily planted, you could always do a plant grab bag for sale.
