Azureus female to female aggression -pics

Postby Girlwithafrogtattoo » Sun Nov 20, 2011 8:41 am

I've been warned about it- and I've been watching my 3 VERY plump adult azureus for quite some time and hadn't witnessed anything.
Apparently I kicked the tires too much this morning by playing call sounds from Mistking.com. One of the frogs attacked the other and wrestled it off a log onto the ground. It let go after a short time, and both frogs hopped away but I have separated the attacker into a shoebox container until I can get it off to a new home- hopefully soon!!
My remaining two frogs are now also showing signs of aggression towards each other. I'm guessing before too much longer I'm going to have two frogs in shoebox containers, and one in my 55 gallon viv.
It goes to show that what is said about these guys is true. Two of these frogs have been together in the viv since 4 weeks oow, and the third was introduced somewhere in the past year and a half.

I had a nice group of 2.2 and the females used to roll around quite a bit, but it was a large viv and I fed heavy and watched everyone closely. Egg eating ensued as well. The scary part is, if you don't watch the viv enough or feed enough, the stress can hit a frog quickly and they can go downhill a lot faster than you think.

I do feed heavy. The way the one was attacked really took me by surprise though. Hopefully the two in the viv get along ok for a while. I have someone interested in purchasing one of the females, but I don't know when that will happen. I can't believe I am asking this question, but how long do you think an adult frog would be ok in the shoebox container? I'd be hoping not more than a couple of weeks for me to set something up to rehome it.

A couple weeks should be ok. I never separated my females even after almost daily tussling. I had lots of hides, leaf litter and barriers and the viv was large.

I ended up putting her back in the viv after the other frogs retired to their hiding spots for the night. There's going to be a lot of furniture moving in the next week, and I'm much more comfortable without frogs in small plastic containers sitting around!

She should be going to her new home sometime this week.

I can't really tell from that angle.. Here, I'll put my pics on here of my females.
If you can get some side shots of your frogs that would help!

Lol! Thanks Phil, all I have to work with right now. Can't use the DSLR since I am in the middle of a room swap the good PC is out of order till I get it moved to bedroom or frog room. Haven't figured out where I want it yet. Can't stand the wifes laptop so I don't use that or have the software installed. I am sure it would only take a minute to do, but its more of a power trip that I don't need her PC. Making a point to her about it! Lol!

Hm. I have no idea! All the frogs look the same to me! Yours just look a bit thinner than mine.

Isn't easy !

I am pretty sure I have three males...But I am not 100% definate on betting on my kids lives that they are. Their toepads have the split larger toe which leads me to believe they are all 3 male, the fact that I have had them together now for well over a year...and there hasnt been any breeding...I am leaning towards males. I acquired them as adults too, so their age shouldnt be an issue either. The back arch i cant tell on these from male to female. All 3 of mine and all 3 of Kims look identical to me in that aspect. But I guess if all 6 were together then maybe it would be visible. I am definately willing to try swapping one if you want to chance it as well. Just let me know if you still are interested in that. When I get a free chance I will try to have them separated and see if I can get individual calling from each. Just tough during the week to get anything done.
Thanks, TJ

I'd be willing to give it a try! We are meeting up with Jeremy tonight again for him to purchase one of the females. I don't know where you are in relation to Colonial Park mall, but we're supposed to meet up at 6.

And please feel free to text me- My phone sucks for getting on the board, and I haven't been able to be at my computer until just now thanks to my dad showing up 4 days early for us to yank up our carpeting! I can respond to texts much faster and easier
