hmm, interesting that the majority has either been in it just 1 year or 8+ years...

Personally I have only been into darts for the past year. Still got lots to learn 8)

I believe it was 1998 when I purchased my first pair of leucs and my first pair of tincs.

I've been keeping darts since '08, but kept a number of other frogs starting with a pair of red eyes back in '93.

1999, I managed to snag up a few of the new patricia's that came in then at a show up north. I was hooked after that.

So true! I believe they were sold as Spotted Arrow frogs at Pet Farm in Miami. There were 2 large cattle troughs full, I picked through them for quite a while to get mine, a deal at $13.50 ea. I want to go back! Bill

Bill,

You've had frogs longer than most of these kids have been alive

Phil, I realize that, and all those years gone by, while I complain about the aging thing I have to admit I have seen and done things that many will never have the opportunity to do. Those that have known me over the years know that it is not just frog experience as I have worked with many different Reptiles and Finches and Hookbills over the years. I have bred common stuff like water dragons and more obscure stuff like Langaha nasuta(Twig mimic snake) to Armored Chams( Brookesia perarmata) . I like a good challenge, and these animals fit the ticket.I like learning everyday from the animals, we can never learn all there is to learn when dealing with nature, Bill

I've loved these frogs for years when I got introduced to them really young in Baltimore. Never could afford them until I branched out from home got a job and now I have 8 :). But I'm been working with ball pythons, retics to crested, leopard geckos----crocodile skinks which I have out the most energy with haha. But I'm here to stay with darts :)

What I take out of this is there a significant amount of people that give the hobby up after 3 years.

I think so too....seems like 50% of the people stick it out for the long haul - go towards 10 years and the other 50% leave after only a year or so. Hence the disparity between the really young and the really old. Interesting hobby poll numbers.

I think it's ok as long as when you get it home you completely tear it down, down to bare glass. Disinfect it with a 10% bleach solution and rinse it well. Throw away any wood, leaf litter, substrate, anything organic in the viv. Hydroton can be boiled to be sterilized. Egg crate can be easily replaced.
