Cristobal Eggs - photo journal
#1
I am excited - I have 3 clutches (that I know of) from my Cristobal (SNDF 2010)

Here are some pictures - thought I would start a journal to document success or failure... although the frogs are doing all the work Smile

These eggs are 6" off the ground on a small leaf

The other eggs are in film cans (3 eggs in a white can and 4-6 eggs in a black film can) to hard to photo

Thanks Phil

I dont recall the name - its a cheap plant from Lowes - I like them because the roots are big and clean up easy - they also tolerate wet soil.

I guess I should show photos of the viv - its a 29vert - I only use 1@15watt LED at the moment. As long as the plants continue to do ok, I will prob keep lower light.

I just noticed you can see some eggs in the black film can on the left.

Sort of neat with all those camera cups so strategically placed that they chose the plant leaf! Ed

Here are some updated pics to show progress

One pic shows all 5 eggs changed into tads prior to any transport. Other pic shows a tad w 2 eggs in rearing site.

I missed transport of 3 tads - I assume she put them into the broms as none were in film cans (excluding film can w clutch #3). Interestingly, besides can w clutch#3, there were two cans that had infertile eggs. I have seen her behave in such a way going in and out of the broms indicative of egg feeding.

From clutch #2 (on leaf) female left 2 tads, so I took a calculated risk and artificially moved them into the film cans that the female had dropped infertile eggs (which were still present). My experiment and gamble paid off! This AM she dropped an eggs into film cans where I had artificially moved the tads.

Regarding clutch #3; She frequently visits the 3 tads (from only egg clutch I found in a film can), but has yet to move any of them to rearing sites.

I tried, but my camera will not focus - its a cheap camera - I could dump him out of the film can into a petri, but Im afraid the stress might not be good.

His tail was absorbed faster than I anticipated. Since he was perched inside his film can I was able to snap this pic.

Froglet #1 has found his way to the bottom of the viv - he is lost in a sea of leaves. The other froglet has not left the brom, although he is venturing further out on the leaf. I have the lights off in hopes that it makes him more brave. I also pulled the male a while back to relieve pressure on my springtail population. This is a 29vert, so I have to really pay attention and supplement on a regular basis.

When I had my pum "factories" going and letting the froglets get to almost subadulthood in the vivs before removing them...I was shaking out hundreds of springs into the viv like FFs...almost every day !
