Dendrobates tinctorious "Lorenzo" pics

New thread for new acquisitions! Four young Lorenzo's in QT. They are eating well after a delivery delay. Getting ready to head out to pickup swabs for RV & Chytrid testing, but I could not wait to share some photos!

I'm still new to darts and these are my first Lorenzos so let me know what you think! They are eagerly taking melanos and hydei. They are bold and active and they appear to have settled in well.

Those guys look excellent Jim - representative of other 'Lorenzos" that I have seen. When I think of that particular population- it's imports in U.S collections, I think of the Yellow head markings and their slow 'fused' / transition into the dorsal blue colouration, just like yours. Very nice.

Yep. I wrote up a transaction summary in his vendor feedback. So far I am pleased with the transaction. I'll keep everyone posted on test results.

Thanks! I've been thinking of adding a less common tinc morph for a while as a way to contribute more to the hobby, so Lorenzos were my choice! I will definitely keep this thread going.

Beautiful frogs Jim!! Keep us updated on your progress with them. Not too many people breed them on a consistent basis.

Jim, that's the way I like to pick froglets for future breeding projects - out of 4, I try to get 2 with a 'longer' body habitus and 2 with a 'shorter' squat shape.

Well I really like these guys. They are turning out to be as active as my azureus but they climb a lot! They are all over the QT viv and they are routinely out and about. I am quite pleased! Snagged a few more photos today. I'm starting to get a greater appreciation for their yellow crests and the various blue tones in their torsos. It's hard to capture in a photo.

And when I say active, this is what I mean:

They don't stick around one spot for very long. It's amusing. It's also difficult to transfer them from QT to QT. They are freakin' fast and agile...much more so than my other frogs. Very cool animals.

Lorenzos are finally in a viv. All four are doing well and they are indeed bold - out and about all the time, just as bold as the azureus. Here are some shots from today:

Crummy cell phone pick at feeding time but it shows how active they are. Three of four chasing down the remaining flies in the viv. They are about halfway up the back wall in this photo:

Your Stout one looks to be female, the more slender body type appears to be male, this based on my experiences working with them for quite a while.

Thanks Bill! I appreciate the input! I'd appreciate any other advice you have on their care. I'm also interested in reaching out to others currently keeping them so any leads you have there would be appreciated!

Hey Stu! Thanks! I don't have room/time for that many vivs, so I've been trying to pick less common morphs after getting my feet wet with azureus. These little guys are so entertaining! They have such a different way about them compared to the azureus - both the azureus male and female are out a good bit, but their pace around the viv is slower and deliberate. The azureus froglets I have are more like their parents - confident and deliberate. These Lorenzo's are quick and agile and a bit nuts. They attempt jumps that make me cringe. They are very adept climbers, but that may be due to their small size at this stage. It's funny to watch the azureus female gingerly scaling shelves in the viv next door while these Lorenzo's are bouncing off the walls.

I too am excited to see how they develop - they are definitely putting on weight slower than my azureus, so we'll see how much smaller they turn out than the larger morphs. I hope they stay as nutty as they are right now.

Two mushrooms popped up yesterday and grew considerably today. One of the Lorenzo's has taken a shine to them:
