Help, tinc losing weight
#1
I am new to dart frogs and I recently got two adults tincs. I have had them for about 4 months. Recently the male died for unknown reasons. Now the female is losing weight fast even though she is eating well. I took a fecal sample to the vet and it came back normal. Please help I do not want to lose her too.

Sorry for your loss. If your local vet is an exotics vet you can bring your remaining animal in for a check. One clean fecal doesn't necessarily mean you animal is parasite free, it means it was not shedding at that time. The typical regiment is three clean fecals in a row two weeks apart which indicates a high probability of being parasite free. Your vet can also talk about other potential medications - eg Metronidizole, an appetite stimulant.

That said the other main cause of weight loss is stress. Pictures of your enclosure would help. Things you can try are adding leaf litter, turning off the lights, taping paper to the glass, and reducing the number of times you open the viv. Check your temps and humidity for seasonal changes that may have moved them out of ideal ranges.

I'd contact your local vet for further advice and post pictures of the animal and enclosure. Good luck and hang in there.
