Spiders - Drug Dealers of the Frog Room

So...today is Sunday, which to me, is Frog Room "Maintenance" day. I fill all the water jugs, sprayers, make cultures ect ect.

I also vacuum with the shop vac - trying to get into every nook and crevice and under the couch, behind shelves ect. Something funny occurred to we whilst doing this today of all days. Spiders get the vacuum on Sundays as well. Those that are small, noticeable and hard to reach avoid the suction and live on, but those big fat boys that seem greedy and set up shop right under vivs and bakers racks ect....they get the ole' tube.

but.....

It never fails -when you suck a bunch of em up one given Sunday, you invariably see some take up their exact space, moving in on the open territory.

Spiders are actually good to have in the Frog Room....just not an overload or such a population, that you start seeing all those "jumbo variety".

I just keep thnking Lord of the Rings....heh

Being I have always kept and bred Arachnids Im used to it. For over two years I had an adult 6''+ P. regalis loose in my house. It lived under the fridge. Too fast and too aggressive to catch by hand. A horrible bite to take on. as for the garden spiders and jumping spiders on the lights, vivs, under the rack shelves and hiding around the culture shelves I just pick them up and feed them to the chams or something. Or to the bigger spiders.

I just saw a photo of a Regalis... crap you let that thing roam in your house... my wife would beat me w broom then divorce me if I let that happen .. HA

I had some loose Lepidodactylus lugubris that kept the spider population under control in the old frog room (and kept escaped crickets to a minimum). In the new house there are no loose geckos (well maybe one or two) and the spider populations have boomed. The jumping spiders really seem to relish escaped ffs though so it doesn't really bother me.
