That is the question.
When I started getting interested in raising darts it was the Azureus that truly captivated me. Of course in the year of research and eventuall vivarium setup they were my driving inspiration. Of course I have read here and there that the tincs are the better begining frog as they are more bold, more sociable.
To day while looking at Vanishing Jewels dot com I come across the New River Tinc. Lo and behold those same colors and a slightly more interesting pattern! What to do?
So here is my question has any one raised both species, and if so what are your comparisons or recomendations? Please if you could tell me any differences in size, attitude, sociability, activity, aggressiveness, breeding, terrestrial or treelover.
I am planting my vivarium now it is a 45 gallon tall tank and will have a running waterfall, pond and several micro climates.

my azureus are rather.....strange. i used to house them in a 58 gal tank. they were almost always out in the open. i moved them temporarily into a 10, not as bold as they were in the 58. now they are permanently in a 20 high and im lucky to see them once a day and its usually the male thats out and about while i have to search for the female.

as for new rivers, i had one before and it wasnt much different in its behavior like any other common tinc morph. at least thats my experience. i think after having both i would rather have a new river. the blue appears darker and its a larger frog. dont get me wrong azureus are very nice too but if i had to choose between the two I would choose a new river.

cheers,
chris

I am not incredibly well versed as to the tincs behaviors could you please elaborate? Also do you mean that the new rivers are a darker blue than the Azureus?

Thanks again for the input!

Err.......tinc behavior. I really dont know how to word tinc behavior. they hop around and eat lol. theyre pretty bold, best kept in pars when mature... cant think of what else to say.

the new rivers ive seen and had were a darker blue than an azureus generally on the limbs and lighter on teh body but next to an azureus were a darker over blue with the irregular larger spot pattern.

cheers,
