Also for the lids. My tanks are all horizontal so it was very easy. I called a local glass shop and had pieces cut that would fit right inside the lip of the tank top. I bought some small round cabinet handles from Menards and a tube of silicone sealant and glued the knobs to the top of the glass at one end and let them set overnight. The glass itself was around $2 dollars for each of the ten gallons and I believe about $4 for each of the 20's. The knobs were under a dollar for all for of them and the silicone wasn't much more. For all 4 of the tops I may have $15 invested. And now just as I am typing this my wife picked up a 55 gallon from a friend at work for $20...LOL. So I'm gonna try a Handi-foam (great stuff) background out for the first time on it.

Sweet I was thinking of doing a handi foam background too.
What kind of plants do you recommend for a 10g?

As far as the plants go I really don't remember the exact names of them. Most of them came from the cheapy rack at Wal-Mart ($2.96-$4.96). I just looked at the tag to make sure that they could take a high amount of moisture. My wife works at a local green house and some of my plants came from there. I do plan on getting some nice tropical broms and such fairly soon for the 55 gallon. For the bottoms I put in about a two inch layer of Red lava rock (very cheap for a large bag at Menards) but I will probably use something a bit smoother next time as the lava rock is very coarse and you have to rinse it very well before you use it to remove fine particles. On top of the rock I put a piece of fiberglass screen to prevent the substrate from falling through the gravel. I didn't use any egg crate and it seems to be doing fine.I will try to get some pics posted.

If someone would like to chime in for anything I am doing wrong please do so as I am also a newbie here!!

jtrasap, everything sounds good to me. Just have to ensure proper temps and humidity, and I would double check to make sure your substrate/soil mix is draining properly. Otherwise your plants will rot if the soil holds too much water. Start another post with some pictures for all of us!

charger, there are a quite a few sites out there that offer frog environment friendly plants. look through the forum titled "Vendor Ratings" on this site, it includes many of the people i have bought my plants from. many times you can make a phone call to the proprietors of these sites and they will give you more detailed help.

Ok, the pics aren't that great but you can see the way I made the lids and get a good Idea of the plants. When I took the pics I actually had one light over three tanks because I am doing some re-aranging, making room for the new tank.

So leucs?
Well I'm kinda held up with my fish tanks, and I think I'm going to sell my 10g and other things for some money to finish my tanks. But I think I want to get a used 55g next summer and set a bigger tank up. But I will definetly be reading some more and learning some more. Anyone know of a place to get some info on plants for vivariums?

Google is your friend! Google 'Terrarium Plants', and 'Low Light Terrarium Plants'.
