I would so much wish that people had higher thoughts on keeping these beautiful amazing creatures...
- To me, higher thoughts are to watch and study a animal showing natural behaviour. Within limited space...
I would wish they kept it not only as a hobby, but were aiming to participate in conservation as a higher goal!!
Breeding in captivity is NOT solely a token of success because they bred in 10 Gallons...
- They breed by force of nature to succeed and put gene poles into next generation!!
My answer would be a No, we can not keep them in 10 Gallon sized vivs...
- Why does pets without fur and big brown eyes deserve any less...!! (!)

I would tell a newb to start with at least a 20g depending on species and numbers, anything less is more suscpetible to issues, and generally less than ideal. Granted three 10 verts can fit in the footprint of a 29 but if you are just starting I would also suggest you start with one species and progress from there. If you are still with your parents you might also want to consider you will likely be going to college and what happens to your frogs then? Start with one tank, one species, and get down the routine of making flies, maintenance, temp reqs, lighting, watering, etc...if you have tads that adds more complexity and froglets/tads have their own set of reqs which require a more intensive effort. Starting more slowly helps to ensure that you will have a more enjoyable experience and so will your frogs...

It's safe to say that if someone takes a short cut in housing their frogs, they're gonna take other short cuts too, possibly compromising the health of their frogs.
They've been housed in a similar size tank for years. Do I like them? Not really...but a pair of thumbs in an 10g is okay IMO.
Yeah Glenn, I agree with you. I use 10 gal tanks as temporary containers, or to house a couple of froglets that have just morphed out. They can be useful. Can they be recommended to new hobbyists? No.

Remember...we - the 'Advanced' hobbyists / old timers, have a duty to the hobby. To advance best practices and grow. There is always going to be such things as "I may do this, but I would not recommend it or tout it on a forum 'type stuff.
A sufficiently planted and 'scaped @ 10 gallon fish tank or equivalent sized Exxoterra is under 8 gallons, after all is said and done. Maybe even 7.
My saying is " if the frog can cover the viv on one hop, then its too small." But I can def keep some juvie/sub pums in 10s anyday no problem as It is what I do...until I see breeding behavior then theyre out

no no.....if a frog can jump from wall to door or wall...then its obviously too small of a tank....usually the case even w my pums in even 15gals. I dont frown upon people who keep pairs in 10gals as In the end, people can and will do as they please....but I also would agree 10gal is too small to think an animal would be comfortable living in....

That's my point. Tincs aren't great hoppers, jumpers or hunters for that matter, so with your reasoning, we could keep them in much smaller tanks...I think the opposite. I do agree with that thinking when it comes to terribs and trivs though. They need space!

How about we keep our frogs in those 5-10g's and tell those whove never personally seen our setups we keep them in say....175gals? Problem solved! Seriously though...once those frogs have been pulled from their natural habitats, Props to those who keep the alive and well....in 10gals or 200gals...if it makes any sense whatsoever
