1. Springtails

2. Isopods

3. Bean Beetles

4. Pin head Crickets

Fruit flies should be the staple though. They are the easiest and most reliable to culture, cheapest (overall) and they hold superfine powder best (beetles and crix hold powder too, though).

Ocassionally, this statement will pop up: " I don't want to buy/culture/deal with fruit flies".

To that, I would say: "Dart Frogs may not be the best animal for you, then" unfortunately.
Termites......yum.
I am just too darn nervious to have termites floating around my house....is it true that you need fliers for them to breed?
I would put the Termites right up there with Crickets as a situational or supplemental feeder.

Terms are high in Fat content, I believe. I hear a lot of hobbyists using them to put quick weight on their breeding frogs with them.

I have heard of an instance where the termite actually bit the frog on the lip as it was being eaten resulting in a lasting sore on the frog.

I think there is also one type of feeder insect than hardly anyone uses....Roaches. Even the small, non climbing kind don't seem to be good for our hobby.

How about those little "Calcium Worms" or Phoenix Worms ? Mixed reviews on those too....
Pea Aphids

Book or Bark lice (look like springtails)

Flour (Confused) Beetles and larvae

Firebrats (Sliverfish)

Field sweepings / "Meadow plankton" - from a spray free zone.

Some of these are not easy to culture and/or not commonly available in the U.S hobby for various reasons.
Has anyone tried Phoenix worms? I see Josh's Frogs is selling them. maybe for the bigger species.
I've seen a lot of posts on them....none had anything good to say about them for Dart Frogs...
Good to know
Specifically that Dart Frogs just "didn't eat them"....spit them out....that type of thing.
I thought maybe they would be good for terribillis
It's worth checking out. I also hear a ton of people say that their frogs refuse Flour / confused Beetles and today, my Buddy Todd was over and said that ALL of his frogs eat both the Beetle as well as the Larvae. Go figure....
I have gotten several plants and woodlice from Todd.
When available here in the UK I use Phoenix worms - the extra small ones that are occasionally sold. The frogs do take a while to get used to them (apart from the terribs that wolf anything put in front of them down!) but the majority now will take them. If the nutritional information is accurate they are def a worthwhile addition.

Regards
M&G
Does anyone know where i can get termites?
Termites are only offered by a few people and then, only seasonally and occasionally.

Not that they are really $$, but most people do not culture them for a variety of reasons. The ones harvested from the wild - you have to be careful of as well (disease).

You should place an ad in the "Wanted" section of the Marketplace here.

I just ordered 600 Phoenix worms from ***** *****. They were the extra small size and came in 4 cups of 150 each. I sorted through 2 cups to only find 60 out of the assumed 300. Thats an 80% loss. ...and that is a conservative number counting all the DOA's. I am going to contact the seller tomorrow to see whats up with this. Has anyone else had this problem with a vendor?

Go ahead and start a thread here, in this section:

It's ok to name names - vendor or business. In fact, it's essential....in the vendor feedback forum.

I do a lot of business with SouthEasternFruitFlies.com and I can recommend them personally. they can also get you isopods and spingtails which will help keep your viv clean as well as provide food.

Are you talking about JoFr's or SouthEasterFF's? SSFF's will make any wrong order, right, guaranteed!
Yes, It was Josh's Frogs... I just contacted him. I explained the situation and he took care of it... I love good customer service! As a distributor I would be upset with the manufacture. I hope I am in the minority here. Has anyone else had this issue with Phoenix Worms?
