Like Bill said...there are probably 3 other species of Chameleon established but the others are all much further south.
The frosts and cold snap killed a lot of the Veileds -even the really big ones. Bill L. told me he found a few hanging dead in trees with their legs still clamped on a branch. Weird. Veileds are one, if not THE toughest Chameleon. Hardy and built to make it in high heat, low moisture and even coolness. Panthers and most MAD species...not as much.

People have to learn to realize whats on someone else`s property is NOT theirs, even if they can see it from the road! I also almost shot someone for tresspassing on my property for the 3rd year in a row. He knew exactly where he was and had been warned the previous 2 years. I almost shot him because he had no orange on, camo pants and a brown jacket, brown hair and a white face during whitetail season. I could've got away w/ it the way he was dressed and my eyesight. Didn't realize he wasn't a deer till my crosshairs were on him and the safety was off!

Also Anolis....those are my two fav invasives.
5? I know of Veilds and Oustalet's chameleon, MAYBE Panthers. Pretty sure there are no viable Jackson's, not too sure about Verrucosus. What have you heard? Sure they were knowledgeable about this?

well, you know how rumours go. Pretty sure on Oustletts and even pardalis. Rumours of little carpet chameleons too.
I'll pm you and dustin with more info as I get it.
We'd have to go to Santa Barbara or thereabouts for Jacksons. Florida isn't misty enough for them - too hot as well.

I disagree. I've heard them.
I love Veileds. I miss owning them. Once I get a house I will get another pair. Such cool, amazing and interesting creatures. I also miss living in SoFL.
I'm gonna have to go Chameleon hunting one of these days.
There are only 30 mins East of you Jon. Go at night and locate them by flashlight- sleeping in trees, by their body 'shine'.
It's harder than it sounds. I haven't found any, but I don't think I have been in the right place though.
