Ok guys I hope I can post this here. I did a little research on these darts. They look amazing.... I know its illegal to import them into the US. Is it illegal to actually posses them? I couldn't really find anything on that subject. I only researched for a few min though as I'm at work.

It is neither illegal to import them nor own them. Per USF+W.

I'd not suggest histos or sylvaticus as a beginner frogs at all.

Because obligate eggfeeders do not make good beginner frogs. There are some who will say they do/can, but they are generally the same guys who advocate breeding tincs in 10s...
Ok gotcha. I know buddy TJ is looking for some also. He has some pumilios right now. I will definitely give it some time before I would get them, but just wondering who had some so I knew where to look when ready.
Due to rareness, misconceptions on what is legal and what is not, and most importantly in our hobby, uneducated vindictive RATS, you won't find lots of histo info broadcasted on these forums.
If they are illegal to own...I'm guessing thats enough of a reason to not talk about them ?

I called three different East Coast offices and was given the "pass the buck treatment" with no real idea of just who is in charge. I want to actually travel to either VA or perhaps wait until I move to FL....talk to someone in person. That's how I like to do this stuff.

The few times that I have seen histo's for sale they were very expensive. Depending on the situation I would say you are looking at $700+ each frog. This is another reason why beginners should proabably avoid them, it could make for a very costly mistake. Obviously, the rarity in the hobby would also be concern for beginners, as these are frogs that need established and ideally they would be handled by someone who can breed them successfully.
I have spoke with some folks that have kept histos/sylvaticus and I hear they are fairly difficult to breed productively . I also believe that they were legally imported in the mid to late 90's and like many things back then, were relatively cheap (I've heard unconfirmed rumors of $25 histos...much like the legend of the $25 BJ's).
Schreff, I can understand why you would be so interested, they are certainly something that I would put at the very top of my list, but it doesn't seem like it will happen anytime soon.

If you want good , straight answers, Google the Chicago office. I know all about the run around and F+W's bad side. That's why I suggested more than once calling Chicago. I don't mess around when it comes to owning questionable frogs. And they don't mess around with BS. Nobody should have to schedule facetime to get the answers to some questions.
Yea not for that price. I like the house I live in.... Now if I could get away with spending $1400-$2000 on a pair of histo's..... I would do it in a heart beat. These would be my babies. I would probably worry about them all the time.
