Let's hear em....straws, floral stems...whatever.

I think they hobby needs some alternatives and/ or upgrades here.

I have been trying out some "boba tea trees." Made from boba or "bubble" tea straws found in the Asian markets. I was inspired by JP's work in Panama.

That's a really cool idea and a more aesthetically appealing alternative. How large are those straws? Have you had any deposition in them yet?

It was someone else's idea from on here but baby food jars.

how ' bout...a Coffee pod rack !

Here is what I think are two good alternatives are....

1st: green 3oz solo cups @ Target. I lay them at a slight angle in the tank amongst the leaf litter for my azus. as either a hinding spot or deposit spot.

2nd: Cupcake sprinkle containers, 5 pk in the 2.50$ bin at TARGET. They have these in for each season with different candy sprinkles in them.

and maybe... glucose strip containers. They are black on the outside, but white inside. They are smaller than film canisters and might be good for thumbs.

I've also used small condiment cups tucked in the leaf litter or attached to the viv walls using a suction cup.

The straws are about a 1/2 diameter.

They have dropped off two tads in the straws that I can see. This was two or three clutches after putting it in the viv. The brom that is attached to the cork has two tads about to come ootw and two that just hopped out of another, so they definitely went that route first, which leads me to believe they prefer the broms.

I've been looking into glass alternatives to film cans. I found these:

It looks like 1/2 to 3/4 inch diameter. This size seems ok to be for lamasi / sirensis but I figured I would ask . Thoughts? These are 8 DRAM or ~30 ml.

Should be fine, Jim. Though I'd keep an eye out if/when you get eggs. Highlands seem to be iffy parents at times.

Thanks Zach! I was figuring I would have trouble with clutches if they started breeding so the glass seemed a better bet for monitoring and pulling / cleaning / rotating.

Is there a reason for preferring a longer tube-like container?

I would still go with something that more closely approximates the size and capacity of the common film can. Just seems easier to clean and fiddly with the tads if you want to transfer them ect.

Also, the 'bloom' style tadpole deposition that Rich made famous- zip tying 5 or 6 cans together to form a fake brom also seems to have a natural attraction to frogs - the many axils of a brom simulation.

Nope just trying to find similarly sized glass containers that don't cost a lot . I like the idea of glass so I figured I would experiment.
