I've been meaning to post for a while about Zookeeper Exotic Pets & Supplies in North Austin for a while. They're a small shop in a strip mall in North Austin @ 183 and Burnet - easy to get to, and man do they have a selection. Their animals are always well tended to and their staff is quite knowledgable. Everyone that I have met that works there is always engaging and interested in talking about what animals they are keeping. Truly passionate hobbyists that are in the business they love.
Whether you just want to check out their resident sloth, the blue tree monitors, bearded dragons, ferrets/prairie dogs/hedgehogs, or the dozens of arachnids, this is THE only place I have found in Austin that regularly stocks a variety of darts, terrarium plants and yes, even melanogaster cultures. I am always impressed with how healthy their animals look - no skinny frogs here.
For new hobbyists they have prebuilt vivariums already housing frogs. They always have interesting vivariums moving through the shop - a few weeks ago they had an old hexagonal curio cabinet that someone converted into a vivarium. Cool, quirky stuff.
Check the place out if you are in North Austin.
