I was wondering. I know males fight with each other. do they fight because a female is in there with them. would they fight if it was just say 3 males in a tank instead of 3 males and 1 female. :?
While fighting in an all male pum tank is not unheard of sexual aggression seems to be the driving force behind fighting and if a female is in the mix there is much more chance of escalated fighting.

the reason why I ask is when these frogs come in from s.a. /panama from what I read is they are male heavy. so wondering how much of a problem to have a few males together.
I have always wondered about this.
'A few males together is....never good. Male aggression in that species is very pronounced and usually results in death.
My advice is to buy captive born pumilio from an established breeder who can give you a much better chance at properly sexing them and/or offers a guarantee for the sex ratio.
where are you located ? There may be someone living near you that can help you out.
As a side note, most species of dart frogs sex female heavy not male heavy in the wild. One stud can easily breed with many females.
It should always stand out when WC stock is coming in male heavy. Same sentiment actualy when CB are sexing male heavy for long periods of time , as in most instances it is not natural.
Also, no pums come from South America, they all come from North America, or Central America, to be even more specific.

about the male heavy comment. example the Punta Laurent, hope I spelled it right. a trio: 2 males 1 female.

As a beginner, maybe you should put off wild caught, diseased frogs for a while, until you've dealt with quarantine, disease treatment, etc. Once you have those skills, and that experience, then it might be a more realistic time to try the more rare frogs.
Pumilio are tricky frogs to start with, and wild caught frogs have tons of issues too. I'm afraid you are setting yourself up for badness to happen if you get wild caught pumilio when you are so new!

I just don't post much on the forums. hence my low post count. this question I asked because I was just curious and maybe a beginner would think hey this person has 3 males for sale and buys them. they kill each other and then the beginner doesn't know why they died.

I guess I asked this question for the beginner that would see this. sort of like when they say is it good to keep 3 different morphs together which I see post every once in a while.
