Hi,

Azureus and leucomelas (bumblebee) can indeed hybridize. i'm fairly sure.

2 males would solve that problem, but new hobbyists seldom want to spend the @ 100% extra price for an adult sexed male frog and sometimes adult male sexed frogs are just not readily available.

A single frog is fine. It will not pine away or get lonely. They get along fine, by themselves.

Not sure if "supplies & related" shout outs belong here, but going to roll the dice here...

We recently got a "Trader Joe's", and I'm actually sort of impressed with some of their orchids -- they have a fair number of "miniature or small" orchids in four inch pots, in spike, for $7.95 each.

Here's an Oncidium and a tiny-leaved Paphiopedilum with a big flower I picked up today -

Nothing terribly rare or spectacular, to be sure, but for a "cheapie" small orchid to place in a viv, that's a tough price to beat. Both were in real nice shape, too -- rare for a grocery-store orchid in my experience, but that may be at least partially because the store is too new for them to have over or under watered them for an extended period of time.

[quote="Stu&Shaz"]Well said Glenn, this thread should be now about what to do and educating us all not about throwing rocks at each other.Your, post is a breath of fresh air. Thankyou sir!!
Glenn tell us please what one can, about this virus,i am trying to wade through the papers ,but laymens terms would be fantastic for me. Its a virus that can possibly be transmitted from invertibrates? there are different strains? Can one treat an infected frog if so how ? things like that would be wonderful.
Glenn its awesome that some positive carriers are breeding "clean young" for you ,thats a fantastic bit of news.
I can only wish you every success with your fight against this, i also have concearns that there might be paralells happening here, but no conformation as yet,a complete twist of fate might have spared us these heartaches
Good luck mate
best

Thanks Stu!

Nothing can be done about the virus. There are several strains and some are lethal and some are not. I guess I got lucky and mine isn't lethal. "Guessing" I have frog virus 3. All you can do is give them a comfy home and hope for the best. I have read that they can possibly clear themselves of it over time. I 'm only repeating what I've read and I've read so much on this damn virus it makes my head hurt!! I shut down all breeding for 2 months while I read up on it. I contacted people from all over North America and the UK trying to learn as much as I could. At first I was told to euthanize repeatedly, but received a glimmer of hope right before I was about to do it. I've chose to set up a separate room and study the frogs and their offspring. It's going to be a long road ahead. My results have shown that insects can transmit the virus and act as a host. I have swabbed dead flies and sent them in. The results were positive...

I've been thinking of adding this sub-forum for a while now, as I feel it's really important to the hobby. Please post up your local retail (brick and mortar) businesses that stock and carry Dart Frogs and related specific supplies - feeders, supplements, that type of stuff. This is valuable to people that need emergency supplies and are either not close to other froggers or unwilling to meet new people.

This subforum also goes along with my current idea to issue praise and good reviews to those worthy. If a physical business is doing a good job with it's livestock and supplies it really should be rewarded with some exposure and a thread here will go towards that.

Remember....support your local fellow froggers and breeders....AND your local pet stores, if they provide excellent service.
