Question about waterfalls

I making my waterfall outside of my tank instead of spraying the foam directly on the inside of the tank. Should I make the waterfall so that it sits directly on the false bottom or should I make it so that it sits on top of the top soil after I get the soil / substrate installed ? Just curious on what you guys think. Thanks in advance!

Id have it siting on the false bottom I think that will give it more support than sitting on soil that will compress over time

i'm not sure what your design will be, but you don't want splash from the waterfall soaking your substrate. very few plants can handle the soil really wet all the time.
