High Traffic areas make for Bold Frogs ?
#1
I have noticed that the frogs in my living room with noise, me moving around them, general activity, seem to be bolder frogs (species equal) than those kept more away from activity. I also find that when I have to change my froglet substrate about once a week the activity of me having my hands in their spaces makes for bolder froglets (excepting Fants).
Just wondering what some may think the line is between activity and disturbance.

Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

i certainly don't have the range of experience that you do, but secretly suspected the same. it only makes sense that frogs, like other animals, get used to their surroundings so that constant activity becomes normal and visits to the frog room are not disturbing to them like if you just go in once or twice a day. i have a red basti pair in quarentine in a warm room away from the rest of my frogs, so i spend very little time around them, and i believe that they are getting more shy. when they first arrived they were ambivilent about my presence, but over the last weeks have taken to hiding when i enter the room.
i also think that frogs embolden each other. i got 10 salvias tricolors which have been in temporary and quarentine containers for several months. they all came from the same source, so i have not worried about keeping them quarentined form each other. as a result i've had them in different containers in different configurationsranging from one to four frogs per container. it seems like the more frogs in one container the less they notice me and the more time they are totally in the open(although they are not terribly shy anyway). i also have groups of red amys which come from different breeders. one group seemed much shier than the other. i moved the tanks so that the shy guys have visual contact with the bolder ones, and they seem to respond by being braver.

Other factors are at play as well. Withstanding your "greenhouse tank" the tanks in your living room/kitchen are bigger and thus provide much more hiding spaces and thus security.

Interestingly, I think there would be less security in the "high traffic" vivs as their openings are larger than the other vivs.

Also, it could be an optical illusion as there is less visible surface area in your frog room tanks.

Temps could also play a role too as I assume the compacts on your "high traffic" tanks are warmer than the tanks in your frog room. When my frogs are colder I see them less than when it is warmer.

All this to say there are probably tons of variables at play, but the largest is probably more interaction leads to more boldness as the frogs see you less and less as a threat.

Great thread rich.

This is something I have thought about on many occasions. And I think there is some truth to it. My collection is cramed into my small bedroom so my frogs are constantly subjected to my constant movment and music ect..... I have been very pleased with how bold many of my frogs are and accustomed they have become to my every day activities. My fants will let me stick my hand rigth in there tank without dodgeing for cover.

I have noticed a similar dichotomy with my fants. I have a juvenile that has always been jumpy, as Fants tend to be, and an adult female that started out the same way, both purchased from the same source at the same time. A while back, I moved the female's QT tank into the kitchen because I ran out of room, and after about a month of witnessing various commotions and frequent movement, she is now almost as bold as my Intermedius.

I agree with this and have seen it firsthand in my collection, numerous times.
