Just got this little guy yesterday. Cool stuff.

Not something I am going to be passing along very often. It is an albino and I will be keeping this one with three other normal retics so line breeding of the trait does not exceed what would normally occur.

Can you give us some details...
Is this the first one you have had look like this (what percentage look like this)? Was it a normal looking tad?

oh i dont want the different one. I want the beautiful normal retics. But thats aweome that your not gonna be line breeding.

I just got the frogs from another breeder. Not sure if he want me to put his name out there because of the possible bombardment with wants....
But as I understand it the tad looked like an albino. I need to check on the percentages and such. they are not of breeding age quite yet .

very strange indeed rich, but i like. I wanted to know if it is frowned upon to purposely breed with the intention of creating albinos or other such "abnormalities". I understand they are very rare even in the wild.

Any kind of line breeding should be frowned upon,(well, maybe not ANY) just as any kind of hybridization should be. Both are on opposite ends of what happens in the wild. I plan on letting the group do it's own thing in a rather large viv. Let them viv raise a number of froglets and see what the outcome is as to the number of albinos that are raised. It is obviously a trait that was passed down genetically from WC stock and at some time would show in nature to some extent. Just as I will not line breed the trait I will not cull the albinos that survive either.

The frog looks more like a leucistic, than a T+ or - albino. The eyes are black and there is black around the dorsum. It's like a froggy white spotting factor.

Look at the first pic. See the red eye?
Albino is a bit of a general term. Lacking normal pigment.

Talking Retics with Scott M. at his place in Fredrick MD the other day. I like them. Don't see too many of them in the hobby at this time, that I'm aware of.

Hey Phil,i have a pair of UE Retics that produce very well for me.The hardest part is keeping them in enough springtails for the first 3 months or so.This pair actually has,as of today 2 eggs in viv,2 tads almost ready to leave gel mass,and 3 tadpoles in film canisters.They are somewhat under appreciated little frogs,but everyone that has picked up a few,has really loved them! There are a number of people with them still. My pair are the most productive frogs I have right now. They've been breeding since November and 16 eggs in that time. Only 7 tads survived, but survival has greatly increased in subsequent clutches. I think the early problems were mainly the pair's youth.
This seems to be just a touchy species, and because of that, I doubt you'll see them available in large quantities any time soon. They definitely aren't a species you can just throw in a tank and say I'll feed 2x a week. You actually have to pay attention to them (when they're out) and adapt your husbandry to their needs.
They have odd bold/shy cycles, but I like them even if I don't get to see them everyday.
