Was my first frog choice of D. auratus bad ?

just wondering if i made a poor choice getting D.auratus . It just seems like not too many people have them. Is there a reason for this or am I just being paranoid ? I think I have been ever since I got into dart frogs haha (such an investment).

Why do you think it is a mistake? Do you like them? If you do, who cares! The G & B version is probably the most common dart frog in the hobby.

Personally, no i think they are awesome - by far my favorite. It just dosent seem like anyone else on this forum has them. I was just wondering, and I'm still trying to find out how to tell what sex mine are. Does the larger front toe pads apply to all Dart Frog species ?

I have four blue and black auratus and am picking up a sexed pair of ancon hills at IAD. Auratus are great beginner frogs and they breed well. Mistake, absolutely not.

this is all great to hear. mine is a blue and black but their blue is unusually brilliant under 7100k lighting. it nice to finally hear that someone else has them too. i will take some more today and get them posted. go and check my personal album i uploaded some pic i appreciate any feedback.

I'm also new to this and am strongly considering this species for my own first, but as I've read they are considerably more shy than the tinc I'm leaning toward the latter of the two at the moment.

i have three in one tank and i have noticed that the two that hag out together are out and constantly moving around (together of course) so from my experience. i would say if you get them in pairs they aren't very shy but the loner seems to only come out to eat and chill for brief periods and always has something over him never in the open.

Hey there, Just becase of us in here dont always have them at one point I think we all did. I did when I first started out, I gave them to a friend of mine that wanted to get into frogs. I dont have any right now but I would gladly have anthing at this point I really miss having them around. So just injoy them and have fun.

I think some people avoid them because they are not out as much as other frogs but if you like them the get them, they are not hard to keep.

thats funny mine are out all the time i very seldom find them hiding i guess its true they each have there own personality. i just try to make their environment as comfortable as possible.

Looks like it should be called a "Midnight" auratus.

Yes, Super Blue. The one with the small spots is actually a very pretty teal. Looks more blue in the photos.

A blast from the past indeed. I still have 3 of the frogs I mentioned back in '05 and now my auratus total is up to 6. They are simply fantastic and that Camouflage loves to sing!

I've got a group of 6 as well from sean stew. beautiful frogs. What I like about them most is the variation in the pattern. I look and instantly know which frog is which, and they are the only "group" i have that ive named. To go with the patterning, each has its own personality, I spend the most time looking into that tank...
