Hi everyone im new to the forum and new to dart frogs.

im planning on getting 1 maybe 2 Phyllobates terribilis soon but before i do i want to make sure i have everything in place and do my research properly. i have looked through the forums but still am unclear on a few things that i need answering.

1.
because of limited space in my house im only planning on keeping 2 frogs at most. i wanted to know if i had just 1 frog would it be ok on its own ?

2.
if i had 2 frogs i wouldnt want any breeding so a male and female wouldnt be possible. but whats best 2 males ? fighting problems ? or 2 females ?

3.
ive looked at a few vivs and the one i like has glass opening doors at the front but the rest is like a wooden cabinet. would this be suitable ? or would i need an all glass viv ?

4. would a exo terra nano viv measuring 20cmx20x20 be big enough for 1Phyllobates terribilis. if not what is the smallest sized exo terra viv that would be ok for 1 frog?

5. i would like to use fake plants. would using fake plants be OK and if so what would the disadvantages.

Fist off it that is the 12'' cube viv its not near big enough for a terrib. I suggest reading up some of the beginners threads on housing and other dart related issues,

Welcome Robiero !

Where are you from? Chances are, there are quite of few local hobbyists nearby that can help you with some hands on stuff as well.

1 frog on it's own would be just fine. They are not social creatures, per se.

2 frogs of either sex can be "safe". Species specifics come into play. When you get a third, fourth or more, then the group dynamics gets....complicated.

Try to get the larger sized cube exoterro. That type is ideal for 1, 2 or even 3 Terriblis.

While fake plants are possible, most viv suitable real plants are both hardy and help hold in the humidity of the vivarium. Real plants are preferred.

im in the UK i dont think there is as many hobbyists over here than there is in the US so finding someone local might not be possible but i will look into it.

it would help a lot if the places that sold vivs would actually state the gallon capacity as well as just the measurements so i would know if a viv is big enough. i know its roughly 10 gallon per frog but when all i have is the measurements i have no idea how many gallons it holds.

I see you have just checked out the "10 gallon" thread.

Another new hobbyist recommendation that we give out, is, buy the biggest enclosure you can afford and have room in your house for. That doesn't mean to try and build a walk-in greenhouse, but all things being equal, if you can afford to spend an extra 15% , then by all means , do so.
