Philsuma Wrote:Phylobates females can make audible noises and even "call", I believe. My P. vittatus do..
Male mate selection by female pumilio has been documented by visual / colour and pattern so I would think that "scent" would not be in play in that mating senario. Males call to attract the females to them.
Interesting topic though. Thanks for the reply Phil, this refers to our mysties one lone male has spent the day in the drainage ditch, which is of some concearn as i have read sick frogs can go and sit in water, coincidentally where he is sitting is as close as he can get to the other mysties who are quarrantined, one of the 3 in Q is a heavily gravid female, today she has been out and about for the first time and i believe she can't call but could be wrong there, Shaz opened the door to his tank,to have a better look hence drawing in air,as she shut the door he jumped up on to the vent towards the Q enclosure, not really what one would expect if he wasn't so good ,but it totally adds up if she is about to lay or even has and he can smell her or alternatively eggs that need fertilising, unusual behaviour not heard of anything like this. The male looks as bright and full as we have seen him,of course i am a beginner but something is going on,just not enough experiance to read it
thanks again for the thoughts,oh and Phil getting some great stuff from you guys very thought prevoking and interesting
cheers dude
