Rise and Shine.

Unfortunatly folks, I am not the best photographer and my camera is not so hot.

But I hope you enjoy the pics none the less. Smile

These photos were taken about 30 min. after the lights came on and the Northern crew were all out and about.

The tank of Southerns were all over the place too, but they are a little more spooky and all I got from them was the pic of the large female.

Its almost like she is just resting in the light on that leaf.
Enjoy!

Quick question. Are all six 'northern' variabilis adults? I'm counting at least four of six wall walking, which is not really considered a good thing.
Not trying to be a downer, but it kind of stood out to me...

Rich
Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

If tone is more important to you than content, you are at the wrong place.

Yes, they all are mature now. I know, I should pull a pair.... sooner than later.
The rain we have been having does get them pretty jazzed up, too boot.

Hopefully, in a month or so, I will have a 24" x 18" x 36" or 36" x 18 x 36" going, Big Grin built in matching style.
Just gotta get the time to do it.
I may have to whip up another 12 x 12 x 18 in the meantime.

Hey..You must have some Northern (or Highland, if you prefer) in your assortment?... If you do, what lineage are they?

Thanks, Todd

I actually don't work with variabilis now. The ones I've had were way too skittish for my liking.

Rich,
You should give them a try again.
I have both Southern & Northern in the water.
Maybe a partial swap for an autographed book?
It's on my wish list. Todd

Thank you. I appreciate that.
I don't have allot of space (or spare time)- so I have to make the most of what little I do have space and time for.
(Some may say go overboard.Smile

Have you seen any aggression with the males? Mine were quiet aggressive towards each other, especially when calling.

Hi Derek.
No, not out of this bunch so far. Each on has their own Brom "pad" they seem happy with.
All the males are related, not that that would make a difference I guess in the scheme of things.
One thing...I will say that lately I can't seem to feed that tank enough.
They must be running with high metabolisms or something.. :o
Like piranha on crack.
When I first got thumbs and were raising hydei, people told me they were too big for variabilis.
Not with this crew, they go at them like crazy.

I had what ended up being a 2.1 group, there was definitely a dominant male, and he definitely did not like his rival. If male # 2 started singing, #1 would seek him out. Lots of wrestling in that tank.

Good, at least as much as I want from them right now...
I only get a tad or so every few weeks... but I only have a couple of cups avail. I don't have much room unfortunatly & the southerns are more into popping them out.
