I was cleaning my auratus tank today I found this worm in the bottom. I dug around and there are several of these in the tank. Anyone know what it may be? Looks like a small earthworm. Its about half inch long and maybe 1/16 inches thick. This tank has been up for almost a year and nothing has been added since it was setup.

Not the insectologist, but I'd guess Small species of "red worm". Detritivore.... no worries.

Thats what I was thinking Phil. Small colony of them living in there. Wonder where they came from.

plants probably, like Phil said looks like a pretty standard red worm. The worms you should worry about are the ones you can barely see or can't see at all. I once dealt with an outbreak of nematodes that were annoying but not harmful. If anything, these worms will probably help the health of you viv in the same way they do in your garden.

I understand all that and chances are they where eggs in the substrate. The odd part being everything in this viv was given a 15% bleach/water bath and/or baked and microwaved to sterilize. Goes to show you never know whats going to pop up,

Interesting....I have heard that the only thing that survived at 'ground zero' in Japan after the a-bomb was roaches. Insects are some of the most amazing, resiliant creatures on this planet.
